Ordering From China... Now??
« on: January 29, 2022, 04:16:49 pm »
So here I am in NC, USA on Jan 29 2022, looking at ordering a Feeltech FY 6800 from Bangood in China, with a projected delivery date of Feb 16-21. So I am to hope my function generator will get here in 3 weeks at a time when the groceries stores can't even keep their shelves half-stocked? A time where we have a widely known supply chain problem in this country? How long would my function generator sit on a cargo ship off the California coast?  I'm not very encouraged on that delivery estimate. I'd be grateful if somebody might be able to offer a word of comfort on that. Thanks.

Most stuff from China is air mail of some form unless it says ocean freight. In my experience it usually takes longer to get through the US than it does to land in the US unless it's the super cheap shipping where it first goes through some intermediary country to get better rates to the US.

What will slow it down some is Chinese New Year.

My personal problem with Banggood isn't speed, it's that you can't order more than one thing, as they will pack a bunch of small items in one unpadded bag and ship it halfway around the world, I never got a fully intact order. I assume the function gen comes with a box though, so probably not a problem here.

It is currently Chinese new year so it probably won't even be shipped for a few weeks.

As above, it's cny.  China ia mostly on holiday until week 2 of February at least.  Add in pandemic issues and I would set your expectations to early-mid March at the earliest.

You just hit my hot button mentioning the "pandemic". The pandemic of stupidity, which will dog us till the end of time because people won't get their shots. "Lots of people had their shots but get it anyway", I hear.True. But people got their polio vaccine and got it anyway. Yet it was eradicated in the first world coutries because of the HIGH PERCENTAGE of people who got the polio vaccine. See how it works? "It's just a conspiracy for the government to microchip us so the government can track us". I can't answer that one. I can't fix stupid. "The vaccine is just BS and doesn't work at all". My answer: Baloney. Vaccines work. Not 100%, not 90, not 80. But like polio vaccine, it works good enough to eradicate this insipid, intermidable, pointles soap opera if people would shut their ignorant, idiotic piehole and get their d___ shots!

As for shipping times - yes, Chinese New Year is an annual event where things just stop for a week or two.

Aside from that, however, the logistics involved in shops getting stock is a little different to small freight, especially postal services.  As mentioned above, a lot of that stuff will fly wheres that path just won't work for 16 containers of toilet paper or whatever.

I had some things come from China mid last year - and they actually got to me quicker than I expected.  Outside of Chinese New Year I would say 3 weeks sounds a little optimistic, but not impossible.  With CNY, however, I'd add another week or two to my expectations - but I'd secretly hope for a pleasant surprise.

I got electrolytes and things are good ;)  The Olympics also overlaps with New Years, so I'd expect extra delays.

You won't get it sooner by waiting until later to order it.

There's a similar model in stock at Amazon with Prime 2 day delivery.  Check the specs, I didn't...

Now at least *one* sensible answer in this thread. ;D

It may not be sooner, but it is more likely to be a correct order/shipment 2 weeks after Lunar New Year.

There was a saying I recalled...  Never purchase a car made on Fridays or Mondays.  I found that to be valuable advice even now.  I never schedule car repair appointments or the likes on Fridays or Mondays when people are hurried to get to the weekend scenes, or still hung over from visiting such scenes.

Never purchase a car made on Fridays or Mondays.

I have a British made vehicle that I'm convinced was made at 8AM Monday morning after the entire factory was out on an all-weekend bender.

When (not if) the Omicron goes rampant in China, it will likely seriously impact everything we import from China. The dictator cannot remove the zero tolerance for the virus else he will lose face. So it it is likely there will be a lot more lock downs and more widespread draconian measures to enforce compliance. There are few reasons why it won't get out of control, especially with super-spreader event like Chinese New Year. So expect prices of everything to skyrocket later this year, from furniture to electronics to cars, adding to inflation and global instability. I hope I am wrong.

If you can choose the exact day a car was made when you purchase one, tell me your secret. =)

I don't find that's always true, it's like rush hour traffic whenever there's a backlog, with the container ships, ports or Customs I find those orders are way late coming in.
Ordering after the rush, like Christmas or New Years, things come in fast post-backlog. The time delays are not linear.

Apparently containers are flowing out of Asia fast 5 days, but very slow to return due to the US and Europe port congestion ~50 days.

I've made my mind up to gt the uni-t 932 instead, since it's cheaper than the 962, and has better reviews, and none of cheapo chinese brands have been reviewed to give a better wave form than a 1980's HP above a few MC's anyway. So, it looks like out of need and poor means, i guess you can count me as just another guilty contibutor to the growing chinese military with the newest military gear that can send 2 billion soldiers to crush us. I hope you folks will excuse me while I go barf. If I were smarter, I could cobble together a few pieces of spare parts to build oscillators for the few pieces of tape recorder and ham gear I will occasionally need them for.
