When I was in graduate school I shared an office with two others. We all had those, and while they might have been ok, the clackity clack noise in the room was maddening. The keyboards on the old IBM terminals were the bomb. I don't know what it was, the shape of the keys, the type of plastic, but they felt great to your fingertips.

We had 75 of those in a job lot last year, brand new and boxed, but had to clear warehouse space so tossed them in the skip. Lovely keyboard.

Best PC keyboard ever made! Mine's a bit younger: 1994
@eti: you missed a great chance of making money! Market price is US$100...200 (used) the last years. Boxed NOS would be $300 at least Too bad!
Check eBay for "IBM Model M" if  you don't believe me.

It was a wind-up no model m's were had... or lost.

Drunk pub jokes or "wind-ups" do not work well on a forum. Just for your reference.

Mine is Nov. 1990.

I've told them to make room for it in the coffin.

Owner of 6 of these beauties, here one of them, still has the box, styrofoam and the protective cover, although has some "old age" damages by corrosion as it was not stored properly by the previous owner.

I have one like this too. Unfortunately the sticker with the date information is gone, but on the front there is the IBM badge. Also has the detachable cable with the big 5 pin din connector and what looks like a heavy duty RJ45 connector at the other end. Not sure if it is XT or AT. Have not used it in a long time. Also very heavy, so a good deal of steel in there :-DD

IIRC they work on both XT and AT, I'm quite sure I used mine on my original XT when I got it back in the early 90s. At some point I got a newer cable for it that has a PS/2 mini DIN.

Is a US keyboard layout standard for the Netherlands? Just curious.

And yes: it's very solidly built, which is why is also works today. IBM always went the whole hog...

I guess it used to be. Nowadays it is the US keyboard with the Euro sign on the 5 key. For the rest the same QWERTY setup.

THE BEST keyboard.   :-+  Happy (belated) birthday to your Model M.  I have a '94 around here somewhere, but it's missing a column and I haven't been ambitious enough to try to troubleshoot it.

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...
