Happy Christmas!
« on: December 25, 2015, 09:12:18 am »
Just a quick message to wish you all a Happy Christmas from a very warm Germany (so no snow). The presents have been opened, the Christmas pudding is simmering in the pan and a duck with a lump of turkey rammed up its ass is just about to meet a fiery end.

All we need now is some decent TV, thank goodness for downloads!

Have a good one!

Check in here from Seattle, WA.  No snow here.  And Santa sent a big fat bonus check this year.  Now, what to spend it on????  4 channel scope? And a ucurrent?  Hmmmm. I think I'll give it another year, scope prices seem to keep going down. Think I'll upgrade my "mechanical" work shop with some tools, and a proper garage door with lift!  Yummy

Merry Christmas ya all!

Swimming in the rain time here, so typical of Durban this time of year. One day boiling hot, then it rains.

The warmest Christmas I remember here in Germany was 21°C in 2003. Two years later we had >50cm of snow that days. So it is a up and down as the life.
Just have ordered my personal Xmas present, a Maynuo M9712B programmable electronic dc load.
Hope to find time to finish some of my projects during the days...
A Merry Christmas to all of you.
You will learn something new every single day

Going to be 85F today and the sun is finally shining.   New ESD mat and a Hickory Farms sampler plus chocolate with bacon and potato chips in my stocking.  Dinner is going to be ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots

Snow-less in Kitchener, Ont. 10°C. Clouds blocked full moon last night (meh..) just dropped snow mats in the van. Bored, just waiting for the customary feast. Turkey smells now filling the whole house. Peace Y'all.

No turkey, just tongue, lamb, beef roast, pork roast, chicken, roast veg, butternut pie, asparagus in bacon, some open your nose chilli and then dessert a nice trifle, ice cream and chocolate mousse. Dogs are finally full, at least for a hour or two, and are sleeping it off in the kennels.

We (North East USA, New Jersey) are in the mid 70F range, that would be around 21-22C.

Love it.  I hate shuffling snow.  Two months ago, we had a cold spell dipping into -10C to -12C range.  This is great.

And a Good Yule from us here in Sweden!  We're all full of ham and glögg and holiday spirit(s) and will feel bad about it some time later - but not right now.

Happy Christmas from a very warm Germany (so no snow).

I'm at 60 degrees north, and there's no snow here either.  Temperatures a few degrees above or slightly below zero; I went for a long walk in the woods with my brother and came home with wet feet.  That's a first.  It's happened before that it didn't snow until January, but it's never been this warm.

We (North East USA, New Jersey) are in the mid 70F range, that would be around 21-22C.

The heatwave was even on the news here, people in shorts and flip-flops (or should I say thongs..) in NYC on Christmas is apparently of global interest.  :-)

Been a great day, The bird and stuffing is all gone. The grand kids have passed out.

Woh.  It is record setting but I am surprised it is news that far away.

Trouble with such a warm Christmas is, the atmosphere is lacking.  I think the store receipts this season will be very very slim.  Many USA retail store used to do 1/4 to 1/3 of their annual sales during Christmas season.  A slim Christmas season would not be nice for them.

Eons ago, I lived in NYC.  I had a relative visiting last Christmas.  So, living in a small town that a flat tire could be the biggest news in town,  I had to find some exciting places to show them.   I took them to NYC to see Macy's, Saks, all the familiar places expecting to see wonderful decorations.  There was hardly any.  This year, with the rain and warmth, and the lack of Christmas decoration of years passed, it just doesn't feel like Christmas.

I am not a religious guy.  Lacking the atmosphere, I didn't even visited the mall or shops - first time ever.  So, I am no contribution to the economy this season.

70F in Texas as well, and my in-laws finally have wifi. Brought an Ethernet to USB Hub and not planning to use my tablet much, but I guess their cable company upgraded their modem, and they didn't even know they had wifi.

I grew up in Southern California. Personally, I prefer living somewhere with cold, snowy winters. I just came back from a x-country skijor with my dog.  :-+    But to each their own. Most of my family would never leave So. Cal.

Merry Christmas to all from the antipodes.
Interesting that most of you northerners are having warmer than normal weather this Xmas season.
Here on the NSW coast, today it is a warm day (~29c) but we've just had a week of cool to mild weather culminating with a very lovely 24c yesterday (Xmas day) and the next five days are forecast to be very mild again (low to mid twenties).

I'm not an outdoor/beach fellow, but I suspect those who are that way inclined are probably spewing with this atypically mild weather.

I'm with you.  I grew up in New Jersey and used to do winter camping and ice fishing.  I would love to live somewhere there is 4 seasons unlike Florida where I live now, which as 5 seasons--hot, effing hot, 2 love bug seasons and about a week of nice weather. |O  SWMBO doesn't do cold anymore. |O |O |O

Merry Christmas from Southern California. I'm spending my Friday night / Christmas day rebuilding my server, which had a crashed/corrupted hard disk. Bought a new one from Ebay but found out that it was used with the S.M.A.R.T. data wiped. Will have to do the ghosting all over again with some other drives. Well, better spent time than stuffing oneself full with Calories, I guess!

And, yes, the sun is shining here although quite chilly.

Well, sorry to be right here.  After the weak Christmas sales, Macys announced today laid off of up to 3000 to cut $400 million due to "disappointing" sales and earnings performance in 2015.  Not all due to Christmas, but a weak Christmas was not a sales savior they had hoped.
165 Senior Executives
600 back office jobs
750 from call centers
It doesn't add up to 3000, the rest is TBD.

This slim Christmas' impact is beginning to surface.  I hope these folks make out okay.
