You're right, it doesn't look right. Dave surely would have uploaded a profile picture. :)

Actually, I wish EEVBlog and AmpHour were on face book. Just post when new blogs are available.

Yeah Yeah yeah ... rss feeds  ...  haven't bothered to figure them out, but I have to use facebook to keep in touch with the kids.
I'm either at my bench, here, or on PokerStars.

Maybe it's one of the thousand fake profiles on Facebook.

there is more potential for listeners and viewers to stay current through Facebook than any other medium, in my opinion.

Facebook works for lots of people, I hate having an account myself. However, I am without other options to keep up with family friends since they are all "drinking the Koolaid"  I do have to admit it works well, just not their privacy policies...

Facebook is shit, I hate it, the user interface and interaction is just awful.
I had "Fan" page up but found it of no value as you couldn't auto log into it because it didn't have it's own account.
Then I tried to make a proper page here:
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001083565889&v=wall&ref=ts#!/pages/EEVblog/121937191161494?ref=ts
But I could never figure out how the stupid thing worked.

Dave.

Not sure what Facebook would offer beyond the current blog + Twitter, except that it may be convenient for frequent Facebook visitors (displayed along with what all your friends think and do). I'm quite happy with the current RSS feeds.

I don't see why you wouldn't do it.  Its another link to millions of people.

Facebook, twitter, and the RSS feed are standard to any blogger.  Facebook is powerful in the sense that when you make updates to anything and I "like" it or comment on it than it will show my interactions with you to all my like minded colleagues and friends, essentially finding you new followers.  It really is a powerful thing.

Its a shame the interface that millions of little kids and old generations use everyday has caused you to curse it in abandonment.  :P

That's OK; wait three months until you've got used to one user interface and they change it again with no warning!  *mutter*

I have a personal Facebook account, and I (occasionally) use it mostly without problems (apart form the shit user interface).
The problem has been trying to integrate into my site to get automatic updates fed to it. I don't want yet another thing I have to update every time I post a blog.
Having the "fan page" didn't work because it was not associated with an account, so there was no way to auto feed data into it.
Then I tried creating EEVlog as a "Public Figure", because facebook say this the only way to add an "entity" as opposed to a real person. But that failed also, the interface did not work.
Then I tried cheating and creating EEVblog as a regular person (the "EEvblog Dave Jones" account you see), but that is shit too.
None of the Wordpress plugins I've tried have worked with any of these accounts.

I'll say it again, Facebook is SHIT.

Dave.

Agreed, I hate Facebook.

What annoys me, is when people send me a message. If you want to contact me, email me and you can use nicely formatted rick text or html and do cool things such as attach files. Facebook is text only so is a step back.

I've considered deleting my account but I don't because people I know use it and if someone doesn't know my email or phone number they can still contact me, which is its only purpose.

Its more like a fancy address book than it is a method of communication.

The only advantage for the eevblog to have a Facebook account would be to lure in non technical users.... so none really...

I am not sure of the logic in that.  Are you saying there are no technical users on facebook?  Digikey and Mouser have huge facebook followings.  I love seeing their promotions and etc on my newfeed.  This is indicative of the potential there.

Of course there are technical users of Facebook, but most of them are able to figure out existing services like Twitter or RSS, unlike most of the Facebook crowd.

I use Tweetdeck to tweet stuff to Twitter and Facebook at the same time. I just started using Facebook for news sharing, not for social networking.

I would say most of everyone on Twitter and RSS are extremely non-technical.  Facebook is more complicated and allows information to be shared in a more complex manner.  Its ideal for information and news sharing, like Migsantiago said.

Twitter is just a simple little feed of short statements that celebrities can use to get messages to millions of people with the touch of a button.  Its highly appealing to people who aren't "tech" people.  The majority of people that use Twitter use it to follow athletes, actors, porn stars, fighters, and other celebrities.  If you think that is not what its mainly used for than you are disconnected from mainstream society (not trying bring anyone down, just trying to be real).   If you want to just follow someone and never contribute something like its a community than twitter is the place to go.

I would say facebook is a comfortable place between twitter and this forum.  It would allow the *less* technical crowd to mingle with the *more* technical crowd that is the very technical community (lead by Dave of course) this forum is turning into.

I would like more nubies to join the forum because I find I them rewarding and I learn more from giving help and reading helpful posts by others.

Of course the downside is we'd also get some lazy students but they soon go away once they realise no one's going to do it for them, the only annoying people are those who think they can make energy out of nothing and won't be told otherwise regardless how well people shoot down their pathetic argument but I still think it's outweighed by the good.

True that.

By helping others you can actually learn a lot.

To answer the contentions to my original statement:

I invoke "Jones' Diminishing Blog Law"  to say that most of us either access the eevblog directly via the website, following the RSS feed, or youtube. Where Facebook would be an attempt to garner a following based on friends of friends or number of followers instead of specific interest. In other words, if the eevblog wanted to reach the non technical it would need to be done based on interest in popularity through social networks such as Facebook as opposed to interest in electronics and electronics design.
