Hi,

many thanks to Malcom and Dave for digging out this really awesome poster. Since I saw it there was a voice in my head saying you need this as a real poster on the wall,  today it came from the print house in 1200x800mm. Tomorrow i will hang up this piece of beauty. Big  :-+ >

Regards,
Alex

Hello All,
Since I'm going to have the print shop that's located close to my home print out a copy of the Electromagnetic Spectrum poster, I spent some time in Photoshop fixing some of the subtle damage the image has before getting the poster made.

I left the original dimensions and resolution (300dpi) of the file as they were, but I fixed many of the scratches and crease marks on the image, plus I reconstructed the letters that had small sections missing from them. I made no attempt to sharpen the image or change its colors/saturation in any way. The antique poster looks great the way it is.

Here's the URL of my large cleaned-up version of the poster image, just in case anyone else has a use for it (file size 12MB).

I don't really understand. It's a printed poster. The individual print isn't the actual work, it's the image that was printed onto it. Isn't that rather like displaying a picture of the Mona Lisa on your computer display, then claiming the LCD itself to now be a work of art? He's just dusting it off.

Is it not a scan of an original poster; that has hung on somebody’s wall and acquired creases and imperfections during it's life, that gives it it's character  :-//

With all those moments of time and age washed away like tears in the rain using Photoshop   |O

The character IMHO comes from the way it preserves the styles and methods of the time to the present day. It's like a little time machine.

Besides, it's not like they're gone, they're just gone in his copy. You're still free to use whichever copy you prefer, as is he...

Well I got Frank's copy laminated and hung up in my lab, all 36x50 some inches of it.  Looks great!

If I want any rips in it, I can add them.   ;D

Thanks to all that shared!

Hello Mr Smiley,
I didn't mean to upset your (or anyone elses) aesthetic sensibilities with the hours I spent in Photoshop working on this poster for my own enjoyment. I too like the wonderful vintage poster in its original aged condition. I stated that fact in my original post above. I just thought that someone else might want to see what an undamaged version of the poster looked like. The artwork is very nice indeed to look at.

Obviously I didn't delete the original poster so that nobody had access to it. It's still available for download using the link in Dave's original post at the beginning of this thread. Remember, even the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel wasn't off-limits when it came to restoration efforts (at least I left the original patina intact on this beautiful poster.)

My original post was just a small, well intentioned contribution to this thread.

Sincerely,
Frank

I have one like this, but it's modern and was given to me for free by R&S.

Real Circuit design time in minutes= (2 + Nscopes) Testim + (40 +120 Kbrewski) Nfriends

Testim = estimated time in minutes Nscopes= number of oscilloscopes present Kbrewski = linear approx of the nonlinear beer effect Nfriends = number of circuit design friends present
