Great we now have a forum, well done Dave. I think i'll skip on the first post prize if you don't mind LOL :)
Perhaps you could give me first dibs on the secret to the Rigol 50 MHZ to 100 MHZ scope hack. ;D

Yep, nice one Dave.
G'day everyone.

Hey, it actually works! That's not supposed to happen, something should have gone wrong...

Hello!
This blog is GREAT! I learn something practical every time there's a new post.
I'm no engineer, but I do have an ongoing interest and a sense of humor, which tend to see me through. :D
-
Just wanted to echo same sentiments - love the blog, like learning something every time I watch. I'm an ex-engineer who moved out to the sticks and ended up in construction. am just now getting back into it - playing with microcontrollers, sensors, IDEs, power supply design, etc. my new toy is an OLD HP 1652B mixed signal oscilloscope/logic analyzer. the memory depth is a real laugh but for $200, it was worth having around for the memories (besides, it works!).
keep up the good work.

Does anyone subscribe to this blog who isn't some kind of hardware-hacker?
where
hardware-hacker == diyer == electrical engineer (student/current/retired)
-
Love the blog. Keep going strong.
P.S. What happened to book reviews?
-
ey up, checking in from las vegas.
keep up the good work Dave, very entertaining too.

Great blog, Dave. Now about those TEEs . . .

Dave this is fantastic blog. Keep going. I found here many useful information.

If nothing went wrong, then you didn't learn anything! Try again. Hope for failure.

P.S. What happened to book reviews?
Well, the blog has evolved somewhat since the first episode. It was originally just a hotchpotch with all sorts of things thrown into every episode. But it's evolved into a one topic per blog kind of thing. I find this works better when people stumble across the blog via YouTube or whatever. i.e. you don't have to sit through a couple of minute book review to get to the topic you want to see. So any more book reviews will likely be part of a specific "hotchpotch" episode or a dedicated book review episode perhaps.
People have said they like shorter blogs, so perhaps more frequent shorter blogs? i.e. I could throw a couple of book reviews into a single couple of minute episode.
What do people prefer when it comes to content per episode / time? Comments please?
Dave.

Dave, I have to admit that I sometimes feel a bit cheated when you need to heavily edit your videos to fit in the 10 minute window. Especially so when you're teaching a technique or principal of operation. (On the other hand, I'm a bit of an EE nut myself and will happily spend several hours a day pursuing the subject, so take that with a pinch of salt! ;))
The enthusiasm delivered through these videos is contagious though. Keep up the good work! :)

Hi Dave congratulations for your blog from Spain. Telco/Electronics engineer here, triying not to forget what I've learned after taking a job in systems consultancy some (well, too many probably) years ago.
PS: Plz more HW hacking!!
-
I enjoy the recent segments going over designs of products, as seeing how other people tackle design problems gives me new ideas for how to solve some of my own!
-
Now about those TEEs . . .
Tee's are just too resisting to pass up I think!
Gotta be slogan shirts...
Ideas anyone?
"I hope your project DOESN'T work."
"Beware of cheap (flux?) capacitors"
Dave.

Yeah, it bothers me too. But I know that 10 minutes is already too long for most people, so it's actually rather good I have a limit I think! And I hate doing those double episodes, I like everything to be self contained.
I've just gotta learn to get better at explaining things quicker and more concisely, that will likely require more takes, so that when I come to edit I have more material to chose from so I chose the one least the least waffle!

How about "equivalent time sampling - absolute bouulshit!"

Hey Dave!
I really like the info-packed, longer videos. And trust me, I do have a really short attention span. Prime-time TV shows are about 22 minutes without commercials, and the commercials break it up into 10-minute chunks with a minute or two left for a 'parting shot.' It's a format most people have gotten used to. I think you should keep on like you have been and hopefully don't lose too many at the break.
For Tee's, how about-- "Wanna see MY single-shot bandwidth, baby?"

Imho, keep up with the 10 min format! If someone has trouble keeping focused, with your own enthusiasm, it means they're not really interested in the subject, so their opinion doesn't really matter (40yo women??).
Btw, did you know National Instruments has their own "VideoBlog"?? :D

Yeah, I watch it regularly (An Engineering Mind), it's very good and funny. No practical content though, just 100% witty engineering comedy.
It's not their blog though, but an employees blog, and they just sponsor it (and supposedly don't vet it).

WTG Dave,
I really hate it when things work up front, I find I learn heaps more with fault finding :)
I recently had this with setting up my mail server (with ClamAV and Spamassasin) one setting was wrong and the process would not start :( Found the typo and things went fine :)
Keep up the good work, it is a highlight when I see a new blog entry :)

When it comes to geeky computer stuff like this, I LIKE IT when it works first go!
My web host makes it easy though, installing this forum and tons of other stuff is as easy as one mouse click!
