| Holy Shit! Coriolis Effect between Northern and Southern Hemisphere seen in feet |

:scared: Gotta see this... Holy Shit! Coriolis Effect measured/seen in draining water between Northern and Southern Hemisphere in only a few feet apart from each other. I had no clue the switch was sooooo bloody sensitive compared to the size and scale of the entire planet Earth. I would have figured that at least a few miles separation from the equator would have been needed to see anything at all, not 10 feet. OK, it appears to be a scam. The actual effect measured by Veritasium: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/holy-shit!-coriolis-effect-between-northern-and-southern-hemisphere-seen-in-feet/msg5211456/#msg5211456 |

A CW and CCW spiral in the pipe would do it, imho.. |

Junk -- IIRC, calculations show the size of tank required to observe the effect is some ~m large, and would need to sit perfectly still for weeks before being opened very carefully so as not to disturb the flow upstream of the valve. The spin would only become evident by the time the tank is nearly empty. It would be responsible to add an actual citation, preferably paper, showing the above claims though. Tim |

Yeah, this is just a tourist trap. There is no way you setup a clean experiment in an environment like this. And "equator" is not a neat straight line with a known precise location. At least for the purposes of the Coriolis effect. |

It has long been disprooved that water spiraling down a plug hole has anything to do with the Coriolis effect... https://www.loc.gov/everyday-mysteries/physics/item/does-water-go-down-the-drain-counterclockwise-in-the-northern-hemisphere-and-clockwise-in-the-southern-hemisphere/ https://theconversation.com/does-the-direction-water-rotates-down-the-drain-depend-on-which-hemisphere-youre-in-debunking-the-coriolis-effect-in-your-sink-208761 |
