venus project: another dellusionalist, nevetheless the best effort, insight and attempt i've seen:
1) we have the highest technological achievement: we have been saying that since titanic and nuclear bomb.
2) the root cause is not money, but human natural behaviour and imbalance in nature itself.
3) you can gather all your men, i bet with my bottom dollar and my rear its not gonna happen ;)
nothing much more than another "failed system". btw if the author really interested, he can contact me i have one book to hand if he's willing to defy his hypocrities.

Another issue they don't refer to is the population number. If people stop dying (war, hunger, health care, car accidents)... There will be an explosion of the population. Will they enforce a child per couple?

you like it or not, there should be a "rules" imposed (most likely defying "human right" buzz). there's no such thing as "everybody can get access to anything". if there is, i will want a jet plane for myself and my house built on a milky river.

How do you eliminate scarcity without resources? How do you make phones without gold and tantalum and copper, all of which have to be mined?

Sorry but I clicked through I'm sure I missed a lot. I'm not even sure if they're talking about doing this on Earth or Venus. But it all seems to be focused on that one old man and I've had enough of old men telling us how we're all doomed.

What limits us is human nature. We have to evolve, it's that simple and there's no running away from it - not even if you really do run to Venus.

I thought this as well and my prediction is pretty grim. In a democracy it's practically impossible to reach such birth control consensus until it's too late...that is when famine kicks in.

Whereas authoritarian government/regimes have much easier time imposing such drastic measures (e.g China). I'm worried bout India, their population growth is left unchecked and not much counter measures whatsoever.

Doesn't look like there's much to worry about India.

India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35.

That means plenty of young people to work in places like Japan and the US where the population is aging.

the idea of an oldman is... we all work together as one entity (no  matter what skin color, race religion or social class), miners mining to build phones, farmers farm to feed the miners etc etc. all we should care about is, our basic needs, "all accesible" food and sex. but what if we want more? what if i'm too lazy to work to contribute to society even if forced?

talking about Japan, they are one high technology country they have houses made of paper, i bet you dont have it. they have automated suspension hydraulic bridge support deep down the sea, but they continually bombarded by earthquake they are struggling to keep up death toll will never be zero when it hits. moral? earth or venus or both are certainly not "paradise", but there will be oblivion, caused by the destruction of human's hand. paradise is something with milky river in it, grapes tree along the side and we can fly out of nothing if we wish to, and not to mentioned.... "alot of virgins"! :P

and the oldman's idea is actually just reinveting the wheels, once upon a time, there is no such thing as "money" and then it came into existence, you guess why?

Actually...

Papercrete is not that uncommon in the arid areas. Now that I live in Tucson I've been thinking about it...

There's more than twice as many in India than in all of North America!
