I suggest leaving a message to a moderator.  As far as I know you can't choose to do it without help.

All you have to do is stop signing in, eventually dead accounts do get purged. Not really sure why you'd want to delete it though, it's quite a useful forum with a large and diverse group of people.

You can delete your postings by doing this:

1. Click on "Profile" and select "Summary"

846518-0

2. Then click on "Show Posts" on the left side under your forum picture.

846542-1

3. For each post, click on the title.

846534-2

4. Then you will be brought to the thread view from which you can click on "Remove" in the upper right corner of the message frame.

846538-3

As far as I can recall Dave deletes zeroposter accounts occasionally not dead accounts. Leave it to Dave to make the decision to have an account deleted.

You delete it by no longer logging into it. Change the password to something random and put it on a 5 minute email.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

I guess that's the equivalent of throwing one's toys on the ground and storming out of the playground.

Most likely due to the responses he received on his recent PC fan question.

Back in May he had another thread,  "connecting a light sensor to a lamp outside", where he also went confrontational with everybody.

ddmeltzer8, if you find you don't like it here my advice is to just walk away. Don't let things like this bug you or upset you. Just walk away.

Set your password to a random string of characters and log out.

Stop posting and your contributions will drop down into history and be forgotten after a couple of weeks. Randomizing your password string will avoid any temptation to come back and post again though.
Best Regards, Chris

If a member becomes a non poster in the Forrest of EEVblog posters does anyone see it ::)

If it is because you were impatient and got an offbeat post on this or any other forum you didn't like then best you hand in your internerd card too.

@Ledtester:  Its IMHO inappropriate to provide the few dissatisfied 'I'll take my ball and go home!" users with detailed instructions on how to find and delete all their posts.  Retroactive post deletion wrecks threads, some of which contain useful reference material before the user in question threw a snit fit.  If they want to expunge their presence on this forum, let them contact a moderator for appropriate assistance.

I agree, that's a bugger and is why I strongly recommend quoting posts when replying, especially the first one in the thread.

Yup. Some forums do not allow any post editing or only for five or ten minutes to allow for correction of typos. I think this is a good approach.

To delete your account AND all your messages, contact an Admin.

The reason doesn't matter, and AFAIK in some parts of the world there are laws for the right of one to take down own content hosted by a 3rd party, no questions asked.

I raised this in a thread some time ago and the reasoning of members being able to edit the opening post/s over time if they are indexs of sorts was raised as the reason to keep it open ended. The point is there is good and bad of both I guess.  :-//

The only reason I can see is, maybe, a sticky thread which is a list of [X] which needs to be updated periodically. That can be maintained by an admin or mod.

Any other edits are so rare the user can just ask a mod to do it.

It works just fine in many other forums.

For my sins I started this one https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/replacement-knobs-feet-and-fittings-for-test-equipment/msg2255109/#msg2255109 the first three posts have already been updated several dozen times and I need to update it at present due to new designs added by others.

There are other non stickies too so that is not necessarily a 'criteria' and having to only have them upgraded by the very small mod team for this forums size would see that team need to grow with problems that causes.

As I said good and bad.

I think being able to edit posts is generally good. There have been a few times I've really badly cocked up on a circuit or post, which would result in magic smoke if someone followed it and really needed to edit it. I could have posted a follow-up, but there's a risk it might go unnoticed. The majority of people edit their posts responsibly, so it shouldn't be ruined by the minority who are childish.

I've seen all sorts of really silly stuff during my time on the Internet. I remember when someone got banned from a forum, all the images in their posts were linked via image tags to their server, so they decided to change them to some dodgy porn. The administrator had to figure out a way to block their site from being used in image tags, which took awhile. Then there was the time when someone who got banned here, decided to come back and spam with forum with dick pics and child porn.

If you care about something download it. That's the fundamental rule of the Internet as a whole.

Hosting sites go down, forums go down, servers go fubar, pissed users delete content, hackers delete content....
