How to ignore topics?

Like the title states, this is about how to ignore topics.

Your member profile allows you to manage ignored topics, but there is no option to actually ignore a topic, so the question is how this can be done?

It is possible to ignore a complete board by checking a box on the page to ignore boards, and it is possible to ignore a member by adding its name to your list.

Where?

On "Show unread posts since last visit", tick the box on the right and click IGNORE TOPICS.  The topic still shows up in the forum section view, I don't think there's any way to hide them there.

I don't have this option, so it seems something that needs to be enabled somewhere.

The attached image shows what I see when I use the "Show unread posts since last visit" option.

Have you updated your forum software lately? ...

I don't recall if there's a user option for it. Would be weird if they're blocked by some plugin, but if you're using any, never hurts to check.

I'm using firefox 88 on the computer I'm using now, with some ad blocker. Have to see if that is messing things up. Also have to check on my other machine, which has a newer version of firefox.

Edit: disabling the ad blocker (disconnect) did not make a difference

I looked at the HTML firefox gets to render the page, and the column for the ignore checkbox just is not there, so the server seems to make a distinction between members. I did not see an option in my profile to enable ignoring topics and wonder if it is a setting that an administrator has to enable.

For the ones that know HTML here is a snippet of what I get.

Which needs to be (presumably disabled = 'don't show') enabled by setting a pull down menu selector (for enabled it seems to say checkboxes, rather than 'enabled', but icons is another option) for some ignore features.  I can't remember which features, exactly.

So you can ignore the topic in unread posts, but, you can't hide it completely.
Would be nice if it hid it from view (for all the sticky threads).

I enabled the option, however the ignored topics keep appearing when they get updated.
This is so annoying. Enter a thread, get lifetime suscription.
Any way to fully ignore them? So I don't ever see them again!
I'm forcefully-suscribed to so many silly/dumb/zero-value threads that I'm going to need therapy soon!

I had it enabled to, but turned it off again. The mark as read button works wonderfully well.

We have to ask Dave for a couch section, and a couple of in house therapists

I repeat, I get suscribed to every-single-damn-existing-thread I enter on.
Why? I never ticked any option in the profile for that.
In fact I just discovered the administration settings to ignore the threads.
But it's not really working?
If I consider the thread intereseting, I'll suscribe to it by myself.
Otherwise, I'm getting condemmned always see the same 41 pages-and-growing thread where some old grunt are discussing about some silly thing which became completely offtopic of the main question.
And these half million threads where someone connects a transistor wrong and here we go again with 185786 pages non-stop discussion.

It also (the forum), seems to be missing a subscribe to thread.  When you come across an interesting thread, but the only way seems to be to put a post in it (to subscribe to it).

If the thread is something, that a person lacks any knowledge in, e.g. SPAM BOT gibberish (or whatever it is, possibly human?), creating a significantly nonsense thread, with very silly nonsensical questions (there is, arguably a current thread, similar to that, about storing electrolytic capacitors).  It would be nice to be able to subscribe to it, without being forced to post in the crazy thread.

But also, being able to UNSUBSCRIBE from such threads, would also be very useful.

I suppose it is limits of the forum software system and its capabilities.

What has worked for me is to find my posts in the thread and delete them.  Then I am no longer subscribed to that thread.  Of course that kinda damages the thread, and it shouldn't be necessary to do it that way, but I've found nothing else that works.  May do that here too, depending.

There is the notify button, but maybe that is to subscribe to email notifications that a thread is updated. Activate it on to many and your mailbox gets flooded.

I prefer to NOT have emails like that, especially as the thread might get updated, very frequently.  On the other hand, the email feature, if someone rarely visits this forum, and wants to know when/if a rarely posted to thread (possibly one they created), gets any replies.  Then that is a useful facility.

If I understand things, correctly.  Some forums, let you have some kind of button, with different selectable defaults (such as always subscribe to threads you post in), which enables toggling, between subscribing or not, to each and every thread.  Even if you never post in it.

But sadly, NOT here, on this forum.

It amazes me, that forum software can fundamentally be missing such functionality.  I suppose, maybe it is part of their 'Keep It Simple, Stupid' (KISS), like principles (I don't know if the 'Simple' in Simple Machines, is connected to the KISS principal).  I.e. Such functionality is NOT strictly necessary, so they left it out.

So, if they ever start selling and making cars.  They will be missing door locks, paint, door glass, infact doors and roof, would be missing.  No engine starter (you can push start it), hence no car battery or alternator.
No fans, as you can open the windows (if you can find them, as there are no doors).  The seats won't get wet when it rains (as they weren't strictly necessary), so there are no seats.  No suspension, solid tyres.
No horn, as you can shout out a warning.
No petrol tank, as you can just keep filling it while it drives along.

In the morning I open the forum page click on "Show new replies to your posts." and work through the list. Don't get that much even though being more active lately. Read and reply as necessary. The I scan the "Show unread posts since last visit." list, which might be 3 pages, but most topics are not of interest to me. Open the ones I like to see and click the mark as read button.

During the day, when I'm behind my computer, I check the lists again. In the evening after watching TV with the wife, I check a last time. Quick scan is the magic word here.
