Marketplaces other than eBay for electronic parts...
« on: June 12, 2018, 01:04:24 am »
Other than direct vendors with their own websites, what if any are the popular marketplaces for electronic components and such? For example, Tindie has a rather empty "flea market" section. Where do you shop for your tinker toy parts?

"OTHER THAN direct vendors with their own websites..."  :palm:

Better define "direct vendor" as you mean it then, since you're speaking to an international, multi-generational, multi-disciplinary audience.

www.microchipdirect.com, for instance, is a manufacturer selling their own product. Sounds like a "direct" vendor to me!
The sites on blueskulls list that I'm familiar with buy stock from suppliers and resell it. Sounds "indirect" to me.

Majority of my purchases are from aliexpress for electronic parts/modules: https://www.aliexpress.com/
Just try to buy from the ones with decent number of orders and reviews, unless you are looking at specialist parts it should always be possible.

I thought I did: "For example, Tindie has a rather empty "flea market" section." Anyway...

Other marketplaces like eBay, Tindie, AliExpress, etc.  "Maker-oriented" perhaps. Somewhere with a much better signal to noise ratio than eBay and AliExpress. I'm trying to think but my brain is :=\

(FWIW, for anyone shopping on eBay, their recent changes have impacted "Best match" searches such that they return what's best for eBay rather than what's best for the searcher. Sellers offering "free" shipping and free returns are favored over true best matches. Same for sellers subscribing to promoted listings.)
