How to make money on YT, specifically how does EEVBlog make money?
(1/3) > >>
tpowell1830:
I have a YT channel with very few views and subscribers. I had earned $.029 when YT changed the rules. No big deal, I was doing YT as something to toy with after I retire. I really did not even try to understand how I was earning the money, but, the option was there so I said why not? I enjoy doing the videos and then seeing who comments and watches.

Now I am thinking of doing a channel and getting it monetized in earnest for some income. I have read articles and I saw Dave's video where he revealed his monetization screen, but I am confused as to how the ads make money for the channel. This article says that you only earn money if someone clicks the ad, why would anyone click the ads while viewing a video? I have occasionally clicked ads that interested me on the forum (you're welcome Dave), but I have never clicked a video banner ad that interrupted the video. The only reason that I click them is to to click the little "X" to close them and get them out of the way. Of course, there are the ones that run video ads and I click skip ad as quick as possible to get back to the video. Some may let the ads run?

Here is Dave's revealing video of his analytics for his channel:

His video was just an overview of how much money he makes and a brief explanation of how it works, without details.
So my question remains, is it clicks per view, or is it number of views versus time? Is it simply number of views?? Please can someone explain exactly how one makes money on YT?

It would be nice to see Dave do a breakdown and explanation of his revenue from YT, so that monetization is better explained.

Ampera:
I believe it's ad views. Whenever a full add is viewed (and not skipped) the bid for that add is given to Google and the YouTuber. I believe clicking also gives more revenue. I believe the per-view statistic is just a way to give an overview. I could also be wrong.

It is both. Youtube deliberately don't tell you so people can't game the system.
You get money per view, plus more money is someone clicks.

Here is the CPM data for the last month
There is no info on click earnings.

EEVblog:
No youtuber will start to see serious money until you get to in the order of say 50,000 views a day, every day, 365 days a year. 100,000 views a day can make it decent full time job for most.

Thanks so much for the reply Dave.
