How to mass delete video files based on their quality?
« on: December 15, 2016, 01:57:45 am »
Hi

I probably have over 100,000s YT video files that I have been downloading (7/24) for years.  A lot of them are low quality.  Does anyone know a way to mass delete files based on video quality?  I would like to delete the lowest quality.

thanks

I know media centre master will let you do this in its trial mode, you have to dig through the settings to turn the scanning on but it will score on your criteria of resolution and bitrate

Its been a while but I think it can also pick out when something has been reencoded at a higher bitrate.

Assuming there is an easy way to group them via the file name and/or path… mediainfo (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo) is a utility that can output data on video files (resolution, encoding, framerates, etc.)  You could parse that in a script to delete all but the highest quality one (flagging non-clear cases in some manner for you to resolve manual?).

If you just want to blanket delete anything below some threshold(s), that's a pretty simple bash script.

Directory Opus 12 will probably do it, you may have to write a small script tho ->

In Windows Explorer you can add a column for Bit rate(Audio) / Data rate (video) / Frame Height+Width / Horizontal or Vertical Resolution - which you can then order by, multi-select, and delete.

In the folder / search results change the view type to "Details" then right-click on the column headings and select which extra columns to display.

BINGO  :-+

I added Frame Height  and it worked    I sorted then deleted all under 480.

Big Thanks
