I know this is off topic but there are a lot of smart people here with smart ideas.
How do you carry around information on yourself on who to contact if you have an emergency?
(in my case - feed my dogs if I cannot)
Currently I have a contact in my phone with the name ICE .
I heard on the internet to do this but I recently came across a nurse who did not know what ICE means (In Case of Emergency).
Now my wife (we do not live together so the dogs would not get fed) wants me to install an app on my iPhone that has some kind of emergency info. I do not have ANY apps on my iPhone because I just cannot get past the registration info wanted. I always get too upset. And I do not believe an emergency responder is going to access my apps (maybe not my contact list either)
Since she paid for my phone this has a potential of causing a lot of problems for me (forcing me to install an app or starting a big fight). So I would like to come up with a better method.
Does anyone have any good ideas? It would be helpful if anyone has a contact with someone in the emergency responder field and find out what they like. The only thing I can think of is a card in my wallet that would be easy to find.
thanks

Why don't you just get the dog its own cell phone?
-
go old fashion. put a card of some sort with your driver's license. that's usually the method (driver's license) with which they identify you.
-
In Case of Emergency they will try to find some identification on you.
A card in your wallet would be found first.
Create a CARD and it would be good to have in Emergency color.

what if you set your computer up so that if you dont log in within some time frame like 48 hours, it posts to facebook/twatter "I havent been home in a while and may not ever make it back. please feed my dogs, thanks."

good idea I did not think of the driver's license

What I am going to do is use some yellow Post-It tape and put that on my driver's license.
I knew the geniuses on this forum could help.
Thank you very much

Here in Florida, when you get or renew your license, you are asked if you want to add emergency contact information-person's name, relationship to you and phone number. When your info is checked off of your license/ID card, they will find the contact info. I have an ICE number for my wife on my personal phone. No point doing it on the company phone as it requires a password to get into it or it would be there also.

As someone who is in the emergency services, if I come across somebody who is incapacitated and go looking for contact information, I will usually look for details in their wallet if checks on our system come up empty. The problem with phones is that most people have a PIN or password on them which would render the "ICE" contact useless as no one can read it.
Some devices allow you to set "Owner Information" that displays on the lock screen. The Android phones/tablets I own have that functionality.

I have an iPhone and no password. Sounds like you know what ICE is. What do you think of the idea that I put yellow Post-It tape on my license?

I have used this tape for years and I know it will stay on.

Whatever works for you. At the end of the day, if it's readable by you and doesn't require a password, then most people should be able to find it. Have a backup plan though, perhaps let a neighbour know that if you're not home by a certain time, if they wouldn't mind looking after your pets etc...

Currently I have a contact in my phone with the name ICE .
Me too, but I also have a pattern/code unlock, so nearly nobody will have access to it.
It's like a solution for when I am still half alive.
... if you have an emergency?

You need a home device with a big reset button and a sim card.
When not reset for 12 or 24 hours, it starts calling numbers on the list, starting with you and ending with 112 and 911

Does such a device have a name? Is there a commerial one on the market?

If you are on the most recent version of iOS, some data from the Health app (a default one) is visible from the iPhone's lock screen if you click on 'Medical'. Perhaps not exactly what you are looking for, but it might just be useful one day.

Or a military style dog tag.

Or a military style dog tag.
Funny you should say this. When I had my motorcycle accident someone stole my tags. I was unconscious and I was picked clean.
I do not think emergency responders look for metal tags on civilians. I sure would hate to wear them today - so much for our cool down.
Edit: I was picked clean BUT they saved my life!

Wow, that's gross. How low can people get... (http://forum.cycling4fans.de/imagesdez03/smilies/neue/hopeless.gif)

Not really - just really poor - this happened in Africa. I have no hard feelings, somehow they got me to a hospital so they deserved what they could find. I just miss the tags. I can just guess there is an Ethiopian wearing my tags :-DD
So I have kind feelings to those that helped me. :-+ , I should have made that clear.

So tattoo your name on your arm O0

It is disgusting you were robbed, I suppose that is a fairly accurate commentary on the state of humanity.
It was an idea

Maybe when I get Altimers, but right now I know who I am. So far yellow tape on my drivers license is the winner.

I don't know, but i looks easy to make: PIC+power supply+GSM module+big button.
There are ready-to-be-programmed kits on the market: http://www.mikroe.com/pic/clicker-2-pic18fj/ (http://www.mikroe.com/pic/clicker-2-pic18fj/)
Those guys also deliver a lot of program examples and libraries, and who poses the right kind of questions gets a lot of help in their forum.
Complete products surely will exist in the market for old and disabled people, or single-technician protection devices.
But that aren't particulary cheap product lines.

I was cleaned out while unconscious in a hospital bed in Australia, so it happens anywhere.

The medical app on the iPhone allows you to view personal and medical information from the lock screen emergency call screen. It's called Medical ID.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203037
Since iPhones are only sell-for-parts when stolen, it could be considered effective.

Thanks I will look around that site. I think it would be fun to build something. I want to be required to press a button once in 24 hours. If not I get a verbal warning for x minutes. If I do not respond then a text message to my phone then if no response in x min then someone else will get a text message and come feed my dogs :)

Yes but they are for falls and medical emergencies, I could not find any product that will notify someone to come feed my dogs. Maybe I need to look under "dog devices"?
Thanks Galenbo for the idea. :-+

I like that idea. :)

It's a good site/product/soft, witch really gives a huge jumpstart to people who are not into embedded programming, there are a lot of working examples so you can do some cargo cult programming and still get something working.
But there are some drawbacks. The free demo software is kind of limited, for example all ethernet examples are too big for the demo limit, so you have to buy a license. Or borrow a license stick from a friend.
Once you get further and more expierienced, you run into the problem of their closed libraries, but you can replace them one-by-one by libstock open, or self-built.

Or come look after you :-)
You can also attach it to a sensor on your door. Hasn't been opened >24hrs --> alarm.
-
Attach it to your fridge door. Since that is where you keep dog food.

Now, we have all those smarthome projects. So a house could check by itself, if there was no person in certain rooms. If noone was near the dogs for > 12 hrs, start calling phonenumbers in a given order.

a card in your wallet is what i would do

From this links is this
In addition to this "active alarm" there is also the option of a "passive alarm" (sometimes called a "safety clock"), on the principle of a so-called dead man's switch. On the base station is a button that the user is to activate several times a day; this confirms that the user is well. If this confirmation goes lacking for a longer period (usually around 12 hours), a telephone call is placed or someone is sent to check whether everything is in order at the residence.
From this is "dead man's switch" "passive alarm" and "safety clock" I can use these terms to look for an app to use. Making a hardware solution is out of reach for me for awhile. Probably there will be a monthly service charge.

By searching android app with "dead man's switch" I found this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonealarm.lonealarmandroid&hl=en
Another name for this is "interval timer". This is from an Australian company.

Going to try this out :-+ thanks daybyter
