How To Subscribe to Threads
« on: June 15, 2012, 02:20:43 pm »
Hello all, maybe I'm really missing something here but I've been looking since I joined the forum.

Is there any way to subscribe to a thread without posting within it? Also, is there a way to view all the threads you've responded to in the past?

Thanks for any info, not complaining at all, its just that other forums I visit utilize a different interface.

Yep, there is a way. Click the NOTIFY button located next to the REPLY button.

If you click on Profile at the top of the page then select Summery there will be a Show Posts link on the left hand side of the page. This will show you your post history.

Unfortunately, I don't believe SMF has thread subscription in the same sense as phpbb, vbulletin, and all the other forum software. The closest thing it has is the "Show new replies to your posts" link at the top, but that only shows threads that you've actually posted in and there seems to be no way to selectively add arbitrary threads to the list. The notify button will only send you email notifications and will not add the thread to that list. In both cases, you can only find the thread again if it becomes active again with new posts. There just seems to be no way to maintain a list of interesting threads like you do on other forums.

Some time ago I spent a few minutes googling for a mod for this so I could ask Dave if he would mind installing it, but I failed to find it. I had expected it to be right at the top of the search results, so it's possible that I just wasn't prepared to look hard enough.

This "Show new replies to your posts" - is that only to the posts that you _started_ right? Is there a way to show replies to posts on threads that I didn't start?

Has there been a way to show updates to threads that I clicked "Notify" or some way of keeping track of threads I'm interested in?

Posts means anything you post by pressing the post button. Btw I just "subscribed" to this thread.  :-+
