All I can say is...

"Oh look, a donut!" *eats it*

Not even snake oil really...doesn't promise anything...just literally pointless. (Gag gift?)

What's the betting there's a crappy 2" speaker in the top of the cube - and the toroid is just a sounding board?

My first reaction was - why would someone make a doughnut cushion out of cardboard?

Throw a Boss label on it and sell it for $399!

Pleeeese take it apart! With scissors.
You never know, there might be eggs inside.

Hey if they used these on boats, they could double as life preservers. Oh wait.... pulp. I guess not. But then after listening to this you'd want to drown yourself anyway.

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...

Yes!  Dave's knife would be the perfect tool for this!!

Or he could just get into it with some brute force and do a literal 'tear' down ...  ;D

Wow, ironic that paper cones have been able to produce great sounding speakers for decades, yet this completely sucks. And I'm gonna second the theory that some el-cheapo speaker is in the base, but how could they fail so bad at creating a mechanical system of further amplification...another idea that was decently implemented at the beginning of the last century?!?!

Remember the dog (Nipper) that had it's ear to the record player horn in the old RCA Victor stuff? He would have chewed this thing up and taken a piss on it in pure disgust. ;)

Done some research.

Cost $56 (wank!)

And I don't think it's just a simple speaker inside, after reading this garbage
http://newatlas.com/pulpop-recycled-pulp-vibration-speaker/22603/
I have concluded it is a driver coil unit stuck directly to the cardboard. Basically the same thing as a stick-anywhere/instant speaker driver. Which he has reviewed and it sounded way better than this crap.

Voltamort doesn't even want to bother with high voltage for this one...

:wtf: all this "green" "eco" bullshit just makes me :palm:

The most "environmentally friendly" speaker is the one made several decades years ago that's still functioning, not this stupid deliberately disposable and fragile crap that might not last a year.

It's apparently $24 now, but that's still ridiculous.

Look! Dyson fanless speaker!
More like coneless speaker :-DD

I made one of these many years ago with two hospital puke catchers glued together (same material), a crappy little 8R speaker and an LM386 amp. Sounded like crap as I expect this does. I suspect this was where this started and an MBA got their hands on it.

Lacquered papier-mâché horn speakers were reasonably common back in the early days of domestic radio, and until fairly recently, speaker cones were usually made of light card, so a speaker made of 80% recycled paper/card. is definitely possible.  Heck, MDF can be made from recycled paper, and I'm sure an acceptable acoustic wadding could be as well (as rayon fibre can be made from recycled paper),  so a conventional ported or unported enclosure is also within possible solution set.  However even a stereo speaker system made from recycled cardboard male hospital urinals, with drivers hot-glued to their flat bases would perform (and smell) better than this reeking P.O.S.

My first impression was that it is a disposable haemorrhoid cushion, my second impression is that it SHOULD BE.  >:D
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

I bet my version from 2012 sounds better. And does not need power.

Unbelievable.  :-DD

Of course, 98% of all speakers are "made of cardboard". At least the cone part that actually moves the air.

Now, you could make some strange configuration that used a giant voice-coil, but you would need several kg of magnet material for the voice coil to work against. And that would be incredibly heavy, expensive and offer no practical advantage.

VK5RC came close to what I wanted to say - I'm thinking more along the lines of those paper seat covers they have in case you don't want your body to touch the public toilet seat. Just pair it with your smartphone and listen to soothing music through your ass while sitting and thinking.....

I believe the technical term for that is "ass gasket."
