Anyone who attempts metal casting anywhere near water or without making sure that non-porous molds are absolutely dry, and preferably baked out is a dangerous idiot who sooner or later will be badly burnt or worse by molten metal flung around by a steam explosion in the mold.  Sand casting is a little bit different -  a little moisture is tolerated and even needed for greensand molds, but its got to be dry enough that the rate of steam generation as the heat propagates from the mold surface is low enough for it to escape through the pores between the sand grains.
