| I have the feeling that the whole trade war starts from a pile of nonsense. |

--- Quote from: Simon on August 16, 2019, 03:49:57 pm ---So what IP have the chinese stolen? --- End quote --- All of it that they can get their hands on. That is to say, everything. *designs for planes/helicopters *rockets/missiles/bombs (including nuclear) *materials science (polymers, metals, and so forth) *pumps (all kinds) *HVAC systems *software in general *all sorts of electronics *personnel data (OPM hack type stuff) *and basically anything and everything else. If it can be stolen, they have some sort of data on it, or it is waiting to be acquired. It's actually quite an impressive and elaborate system for data exfiltration/acquisition. When it first started happening (a long time ago), I thought the US would put in place measures to stop it. Unfortunately, old habits die hard. The US has adamantly refused to change its "good ol boy" system, and there seems to be no end in sight for the data free-for-all. |

This will come with a period of suffer, can you stomach it? --- Quote from: MyHeadHz on August 16, 2019, 04:40:33 pm ---*designs for planes/helicopters *rockets/missiles/bombs (including nuclear) --- End quote --- Chinese arms are largely descendent of USSR designs to begin with, not Western ones. Should anyone be worried it would be Putin not USA. --- Quote from: MyHeadHz on August 16, 2019, 04:40:33 pm ---*materials science (polymers, metals, and so forth) *pumps (all kinds) *HVAC systems *software in general *all sorts of electronics --- End quote --- Either China designed those by itself, or China bought these fair and square. Simultaneous discovery and simultaneous invention is a thing. You guys should have better patented your designs and hiked the prices back then, but alas a signed contract is a signed contract. --- Quote from: MyHeadHz on August 16, 2019, 04:40:33 pm ---*personnel data (OPM hack type stuff) *and basically anything and everything else. Gee, I guess it's been a while since we had a China-bashing extravaganza. --- Quote from: VK3DRB on August 16, 2019, 03:42:57 pm ---The trade war with China is primarily about the theft of intellectual property which has badly damaged companies in the USA and other nations considerably. One thing Trump's government is doing, that the former US administrations completely failed to do, is making the communist regime accountable for its role in supporting the theft of IP. China has learn to respect intellectual property, stop hacking western companies and governments, learn to innovate themselves, and just grow up. Trump's tariffs will decentralise manufacturing out of China - having all your eggs in one basket is not a good idea. --- End quote --- Bullshit. This is repeated over and over with the intention of demonizing China and it is nonsensical. If you have a patent in America or in Australia and some infringes it, either by manufacturing locally or by importing an infringing product you have the exact same right to sue and stop the sale of such product. It does not matter if it was made locally or imported from China or anywhere else. The intellectual property argument is just blaming China as a scapegoat and it is as untrue and as despicable as the German government in the 1930s blaming the Jews for their problems. No. The problems of the richest societies on Earth are not caused by people who are much poorer and just trying to make a living. It is the rich countries who in many cases have colonized and pillaged the poorer countries so let us not play the blame game. Blaming China works well with the ignorant masses, the xenophobic, the racists, but note how the big companies who are supposed to "benefit" from the trade war are pretty much all against it. No, the rhetoric is aimed at the ignorant masses who believe they can take America back 50 years when America ruled the world, when blacks and other minorities knew their place and when America had practically no competition in manufacturing. Those ignorant masses are the ones who will pay the highest price but the leaders who agitate them gain support and will keep doing it. America's problems are not caused by China. In fact, China is a huge customer of many western countries. General Motors sells more vehicles in China than in America. A lot more. Creating confrontation and tension is stupid and is harmful to everybody, even bystanders. Civilized countries resolve their differences by negotiations and submitting to arbitration. There is one country that believes it is above everyone else and it ain't China. Let's quit with the China bashing. Please. --- Quote ---For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. - - H.L. Mencken --- End quote --- |
