Up to down, left to right, in case the photo being hard to read:
* 3x 80C88, one of which genuine Intel, two OKI.
* 2x 8087, genuine Intel.
* 2x MC68010, genuine Motorola
* 2x 80C286, Harris
* 2x 80C86, OKI
* 2x W65C816, genuine WDC
* 2x MC68B09, genuine Motorola
* 1x MC68HC000, genuine Motorola.

I actually have the full set of chips to build the basic system of IBM PC/XT...

The 186 was more of a SoC than a CPU - 80186 as to 8086 is kind of like 68302 as to 68EC000. What I mean full set x86 is I have the full set for PC/XT.

80186 featured in desktop machines from RM here in the UK. Probably cheaper :)

Nice collection BTW. Worst CPU ever but worth collecting.

There was a strange time of 1983-1985 when companies piled into the desktop PC market and practically every entry made the same two mistakes. First they tried to compete at close to IBM price levels, when beige box XT clones had just started showing up from Taiwan at half price. Second they would dick around and make it not quite binary compatible with IBM, like  designing in a 186, again the beige box units were full exact  clones.

Technix really needs to get a hold of one or 2 NEC v20's. Socket compatible with an 8088, slightly faster with string moves and includes the capability to run 8080a code natively, so you could run a copy of CPM-80 and CPM-80 applications at full speed. And then switch back to MS-dos.

Is there any CMOS version of that? (As my power supply might not be strong enough to power that many NMOS parts.) Also how do I deal with that 8087 in this state?

Edit: found them in 16MHz CMOS version. The rest of 8088 platform can be kept as-is including that 8087.

80C186 is surprisingly cheap here, but given the non-compliance of IBM PC I think I will skip it.

Yes they were used  a lot in schools and were pretty crappy, compared to what else was available back then.

Yeah the other stuff didn't come with an "RM cash bonus" on the sly. Disappointed to see RM are still going  :--

RM is “Research Machines”. They’re a UK based computer manufacturer. They target the education market.

They used to sell some pretty hefty and decent Z80 / CP/M systems in the late 1970s and early 1980s but switched to slightly incompatible clone computers to try and lock people into their stuff. They now sell compatible clones and software to education market for way more than anyone else does. They’re total bastards basically.

They’re well known for “value adds” where the teachers get some direct and personal benefit if they order from them. This has rumoured to have been cash in the past.
