I showed amazing restraint today...
« on: March 27, 2013, 07:33:15 pm »
I went to an electronics recycler with a friend who happens to be friends with the owner. He said the magic words, "take whatever you want", unfortunately I could only take what could fit in the car, so the big stuff had to stay behind. I think I made out OK though.

BK Precision Model 1601 Power Supply
3x Leeds & Northrup 4776 Decade Boxes
Fluke 8000A Digital Multimeter
Global Specialties Proto-Board PB-503
Leeds & Northrup 7645 Students' Potentiometer
Triplett Model 630-PLK Analog Multimeter

There was so much more, they got a big shipment from N.C. State University.

My response will be " My friend will be here in a short while with the truck", even if he has to go out and hire one.

I know I should go back for more, but I have limited space too. A lot of the stuff I left behind were giant curve tracers and old oscilloscopes, they had a pallet of little 10mhz single channel scopes. The most interesting scope was a big Lecroy that was marked "dead channel", I don't need another project scope. I got a lot of the best stuff that I could get to without tearing into the shrink wrapped pallets too much.

I also don't want to appear too greedy, I want to be able to go back later on. He said he'd call me if they get another shipment like that in. I've also shown interest in working there in the tech area, since they also repair and resell a lot of things.

I could have left the computers behind for more space, but that is what we went there for in the first place.

I'd definitely have taken a curve tracer. Those sell for a good bit and don't really have anything complicated in them if they need to be repaired. They are huge, though.

You apparently have a very small car.

Curve tracer(s). You left curve tracer(s) behind. Don't you know the EE's motto "No curve tracer left behind"?

What sort were they? Not Tektronix by any chance?
Are you likely to go back?
How would you feel about packing up a curve tracer to send to Australia?

My friend was driving, he got a bunch of computers and monitors which took up most of the space.

I saw a Tek 575 or similar, but it was missing pieces. I don't recall what the others were, but none looked to be in good enough shape to take a chance on shipping anywhere. Most stuff was definitely there for a reason.

Those Optiplexes (260/270/280 by the looks of it) are just horrid for bad motherboards, bad power supplies, and bad hard drives.  Be prepared to re-cap those things.  If it has the original hard drive in it, I'd toss it and get a new drive as well.
Maintain your old electronics!  If you don't preserve it, it could be lost forever!

They are 745's, no signs of leaking caps on the motherboards yet. They have 500GB WD drives in them, not originals according to the service tag.
