This is not to feed the alleged troll (I've never hear of him until now), but for Simon Dave and others, about the Vichy VC99.
I watched the multimeter shootout and despite Dave's rants I found it good value for money.
Measuring a 1% metal film resistor using the same test leads with the VC99 reads within the 1%, my UNI-T UT50A doesn't.
I will get a sample of a precision voltage reference to test the voltage measurement accuracy later, but juding from the video, it was damn close to the fluke, it should behave good considering the cost.
I've also added a nicely integrated IR diode for RS232 output, and considering I've paid 36USD for each, I'm pretty satisfied!
It's not the absolute best, but it is good value for money.
I also love that it uses AAA batteries which are cheaper than 9V ones, and since I use exclusively rechargeable batteries, the cost difference from 9V to AAA is even greater than using disposables. When using rechargeables, the 9V ones (which are actually 8.4V nominal) last a short time per charge, but the AAA's are much closer to the disposables.
There is at least one thing I don't like about it: the slow reacting continuity test, and slow measurement in auto range.
