Saying "all Flukes are overpriced" generalizes a bit too much. My original observation about price related to the 87V. That meter is evidently a very old ("mature") design that has surely amortized its development costs many times over by now. Fluke clearly are pricing that meter in accordance with the quality and the brand and its position in the line-up, but they must have a very good margin on it.
One thing that bugs me is when Fluke fall prey to the marketing "keep adding more features" mantra. They replaced the beautiful, elegant 189 with the horrible, overweight, bloated, battery hungry 289. What were they thinking? I'd like a top end electronics oriented Fluke, but I'm blowed if I'm ever going to buy a 289. They really screwed the pooch on that one.
