Is www-bestdiscountparts-com legit? NO!
« on: October 08, 2024, 07:03:55 pm »
Looking for some uncommon lapp cable sold per meter (only need a few).
I've found: url removed
They have a huge assortment at huge discounts but the only contact information is a gmail address.

To good to be true? YES

That domain was registered just a few days ago. There's a scam campaign with fake online shops for electronic parts running for a while. Could be part of it.

Not worth a gamble than.

Also thousands of parts only categorized by brand name.. likely the work of something highly automated.

It is not a gamble, it is a 100% scam.

Their contact information is a random gmail address.

Putting that email address on search gives you tons of similarly set up sites across many different fields and countries....

Geez, that's lazy even for a scammer's standard...

Actually, every post in this thread makes the domain more legit -- at least as far as Google's ranking algorith is concerned. Could we please at least remove the link from the original post? Not sure how much impact the spelled-out domain name in the thread title and every post will have.

It does not matter. Those things are created and closed weekly. Plus google screwed up their algorithm so much that stuff like this no longer affects it.

It is fun to see industrial one though. Usually they do cheap outfits and accessories and advertise on facebook and instagram. The site becomes irrelevant after an ad campaign and skimming all the people that are still on facebook.

Forums are designed to prevent this.  Here's the source to Soulman's link:

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://www.bestdiscountparts.com" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">www.bestdiscountparts.com</a>

If Google decides to value an intentional noreferrer AND from a topic with the words "scam" then that's on them.

Providing a link so others can learn is very valuable.  A visitable example teaches people more effectively than any amount of talking about the problem or showing of pictures.

If Google decides to value an intentional noreferrer [...]

I think you misunderstand the "noreferrer" property. It just means that the originating website is not transmitted to the destination website when someone clicks on the link -- i.e. the bestdiscountparts.com server will not be told that you came over from eevblog.com. I don't think that property has any implications on what Google does with the URL.

Edit: And there are swarms of link spammers supporting my interpretation. ;)

It would make more sense to have search engines associate the URL with scam. Currently a search for the URL plus 'scam' lists this thread at position #1.
