dx.com shipping to Canada

Hi all,

Has anybody bought anything from Dealexpress (dx.com) and have it shipped to an address in Canada?
They specify free shipping but sometimes the carrier charges duties at the door.

I want to send a gift to someone in Quebec but I don't want the receiver to be charged.

Technically, anything over $20 CDN is subject to custom duties and taxes.

The item’s value in Canadian dollars

Under the provisions of the Postal Imports Remission Order, if someone mails you an item worth CAN$20 or less, you don’t have to pay duty or taxes on the item. If the item is worth more than CAN$20, you must pay the applicable duty, the GST or HST, and any PST on the item’s full value.

Handling costs

To process goods imported as mail that are subject to duty and/or tax, Canada Post charges the recipient CAN$9.95. If the item is duty-free and tax exempt, no amount is charged.

If you get is shipped by post it will typically come with no extra fee's. If shipped by courier expect tax and a handling fee plus duty if any.

Shipping is slow, 4 weeks to western Canada is normal for me. They do however have some items you can't get easily and package stuff well. I do buy some stuff from them.
