Title: Ideas to hack an IR cable for the honeywell gasalertmicroclipxt?
Post by: XOIIO on February 22, 2015, 07:16:12 pm
Hey all, got a gasalertmicroclipXT through kijiji for a meer $20, h2s and LEL sensors are active, sadly carbon monoxide and oxygen sensors are not active.

I need an infrared usb interface cable to program and read data from it, however I haven't found anything online in terms of DIY solutions, the cable will be around $80 plus shipping locally (one province over) so about the same price as anywhere else, though online would probably have more shipping cost.

There is no JTAG connector on it however and the IR LED's are a small SMD assembly, so I think it might be hard to rig up anything DIY. I'm thinking I will just have to pony up for the cable sadly, but maybe someone here has done work with these and has an idea or heck maybe works for a company that uses these and has an old one they could send me for cheaper.

I can't find anywhere online less than $70usd. Guess these specialized things don't go on sale really lol.

I'll bet that there is an app note for a chip that provides serial IR or something that will talk about the board layout etc.

do they really do USB over IR?

Or is it USB -> Serial -> IR transceiver
