I wonder if incorrectly setup brake regen caused it. (ESC fets blown from regen and shorted battery.)
Since it happened when decelerating.

Probably either that or badly packaged cells that shorted on the G force of decelerating.  Cough - UnitPackPower - Cough.

 >:D Burn baby burn. eBike inferno!

Why do a teardown video, when you can do a burn down? Tear down the road, burn down the bike.

Take note of the white smoke, an indicator of a lithium battery going already gone critical. [ Maybe the Vatican could use this technology, discuss? ]

To the battery pack, the KW motor would have looked like a short circuit.

btw I did not notice any mirrors, speedometer, charge indicator or other roadworthy 'systems' on the handlebar area? Oh yes, it's an e-bicycle; you can tell this by the crappy orange plastic petals taken straight off a children's toddler's first bike. Sadly we do not get the 'feedback' from the F.D., but I suspect they conjugated words including neck and red?

Anyway, check out the velocity. I want this bike.

looks like 70mph and push it to the limit now your cooking with 83 volts of lithium.  :palm:-your got one expensive camp fire.
he could have saved the bike, by immediately pulling out the battery pack when he stopped.
but he was so preoccupied with his phone as so typical of this generation. at least your got 1.09K subscribers ::)
as an e-bike owner for more then 3 yrs, in my opinion this video just gives Big government a reason to regulate & tax one more freedom as common sense is not that common, anymore.

In the UK if its over a specific power, it rapidly becomes a motorcycle. So, therefore, comes under the laws for motorcycles but so far there has been little effort from the Police on this so on my drive to work I have to put up with being overtaken in a 30mph limit by someone doing >40mph. Then there is a chap posting videos of his 60mph one, I am only grumpy because I know if I did anything like this the Police would soon be after me.

See https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
Quote
Electric bikes: licensing, tax and insurance

You can ride an electric bike if you’re 14 or over, as long as it meets certain requirements.

These electric bikes are known as ‘electrically assisted pedal cycles’ (EAPCs). You do not need a licence to ride one and it does not need to be registered, taxed or insured.
What counts as an EAPC

An EAPC must have pedals that can be used to propel it.

It must show either:
  • the power output
  • the manufacturer of the motor

It must also show either:
  • the battery’s voltage
  • the maximum speed of the bike

Its electric motor:
  • must have a maximum power output of 250 watts
  • should not be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15.5mph

An EAPC can have more than 2 wheels (for example, a tricycle).

Where you can ride

If a bike meets the EAPC requirements it’s classed as a normal pedal bike. This means you can ride it on cycle paths and anywhere else pedal bikes are allowed.
Other kinds of electric bike

Any electric bike that does not meet the EAPC rules is classed as a motorcycle or moped and needs to be registered and taxed. You’ll need a driving licence to ride one and you must wear a crash helmet.
Getting vehicle approval for your electric bike

An electric bike must be type approved if either:
  • it can be propelled without pedalling (a ‘twist and go’ EAPC)
  • it does not meet the EAPC rules

This should have been done by the manufacturer or importer before you bought it. If it’s been type approved, it will have a plate showing its type approval number.

My 2p on why it failed. It as cold and he took it out for a blast and for best part of 8 mins it was flat out with 1 stop at a junction. The batteries were overheating despite the cold and after slowing down the second time the air cooling wasnt enough a poof.

From my years of riding 2 strokes on the road you learn to vary the throttle and not to hold it pinned for mile after mile. As that can cause cold seizures but have also seen bikes go pop due to the airflow keeping them cold until the end of the straight and then blowing up after a a few corners due to the sudden heat change.

Yeah.

Every electric vehicle needs to have multiple temp sensors inside the battery pack to warn you about excessive temperature rate of change, and for general pack health.
If you know the cell temp is rising in an unsafe manner you can take action before thermal runaway.

NTC thermistors are like 3 cents plus some sort of a multichannel monitoring chip or cheap MCU.
Shouldn't add more than $1 to the cost, even if you monitored the temp of every cell it wouldn't cost much. $2 maybe.
The extra wire is probably the biggest cost but if you already had wires to each cell for voltage monitoring i'm sure there's options for an i2c bus or similar.

2k of bike sold for 6k.

The temp sensors should have been used to reduce the power/speed of the bike to avoid sudden shock or overheating. But they needed to do testing to find these issues and that costs money.

One of the things I have learnt about a new bike is you take it for some short easy journeys to start with to run it in. I know at least 2 people that would strip a bike down and rebuild it before even attempting to start it, that way they would know every bolt was done up right and the bits that needed lube were lubed.

A poor connection on the battery could generate some heat.

I wonder if, going forward, more emphasis should be put on being able to 'eject the core'? Though I suppose that if even basic temp sensors aren't even present then it's doomed.

There is exactly ZERO (big fat zero) chance that someone paid 6K USD on this e-bike, it has ZERO control elements, a miserable small 1$ light and that's it, most likely one of these "viral" videos made for views and "influencer points" and subscribers.
So is this is similar with the Alibaba/Aliexpress "Enduro" off-road e-bikes (not even meant to run on public roads), that even the latest and greatest models are less than 2.8K USD, that was most likely a discounted older model that the guy bought not to use it (the first police car found on the road would have got him arrested and the contraption confiscated), but to propel his Youtube channel.
This explain the lack of all things necessary for a public road vehicle, like speedometer, mirrors, charge measurement and so on.

The video is the fakest shit that I've seen lately, and I've seen a lot of fake shite made for likes and subscribes, the guy produced a long video, a Youtube short and some Tik-toc's, Fortunately it didn't bring him too many subscribers with all this cringe efforts to play a desperate dude, "oooohhh loook it buuurns....", als the bursting in flames is highly suspect as hell, so 0/5, staged shit.

There are a things that dont add up, such as mentioning the speedo issue just as it goes up to 300mph. But I wouldn't assume it's a fake, well it's not as fake as jumping out of a perfectly fine aircraft while having lots of cameras ready to get the angles.

The value is what someone says it's worth and you never know they may have bought it from a guy down at the market for half the retail price of $5999.95

I don't think any company will have battery eject for an off-the-shelf bike, too many legal issues.
But having a pin you can pull in a hurry and have the battery pack fall out the bottom is probably a good idea for home built jobs.

As above its looks to be another POS made in the USA ;-) More specifically the frame is made in the USA (Wynnewood, Pennsylvania) and then the Chinese stuff is bolted in. The ebay listing I found states "10,000w+ TheOtherBike TOB, QS 138 70h, 72v 45ah, VOTOL Controller (not SurRon)" I wonder if this person used to sell Audio stuff in the past as I get a whiff of snake oil.

3kW motor but it can do 20kW

eBay Store is, https://www.ebay.com/str/ebike1com and it doesn't look like they have sold much for a while.

https://www.tobebike.com/ registered on "2022-09-23"

Now the site may seem a little shoddy but I know a few engineers of mechanical stuff and they ain't computer types.

300mph, I hope the local county sheriff doesn't book him for speeding ::)

Motor: 3kw Can Do 20kw

Anyone know of a Mosfet that can 'do' 20kw?  :o

72v 45ah is how much energy dissipation? Maybe it's all air cooled, like the smoking legs of the rider?

Through the primary power bus bar:
3000W @ 72V ~= 41A
20000W @ 72V ~= 270A  :bullshit:

Which yields on the normal setting just under one hour of riding. Or roughly 40 miles on the flat. At max amps though, the rider has a mere 8 minutes to ride as far from civilisation before the bike turns into a mobile crematorium. A paltry 6.66 miles >:D

I stand corrected, so there was actually someone cheeky enough to ask 6.5K USD for this turd. Most likely some Chinese company and the site is indeed fishy, the pictures shows some wear traces on the handle and some really shady workmanship.

Anyways I still believe is a publicity/influencer stunt and if someone wants to roast their balls they are way cheaper on alibaba:

https://german.alibaba.com/Popular/CN_5000w-enduro-e-bike-Trade.html

The only issue is that this shite will be used to justify even more draconian measures and regulations for the e-bikes, like this this stupid anemic 250W engine and similar crap.

The entire point of a PROPER bicycle is to provide exercise. "E-bikes" are as pointless as they seem, and a nice little earner for HMRC to fool the gullible and trend-followers.
