Fearless leader spotted at Electronex
« on: September 11, 2013, 04:19:28 am »
.... talking to Taiwanese GW Instek reps. They were deep in convo, so I didn't bother them.
Rigol had their new 4 channel DSOs on show. 70MHz ~$535- 100MHz ~ 780-
Nice size screen, specs are very nice for the price.
I found the show well worthwhile, not huge, but mostly RELEVANT stuff. Today and Tomorrow.
Hello <tap> <tap> .. is this thing on?

It was a good show. Scored some nice enclosures from Hammond. Talked to John South at Emona, (the guy who looks perpetually whipped) he mentioned prices were going up in the next few weeks due to the drop in the exchange rate.

Indeed he was, I was walking past the GW stand and they had just finished talking (I think), so I said hi :)

Just moved over from the UK, and wasn't sure what to expect from the show, but it was good, with a good coverage of PCB, assembly, equipment guys etc.
Haven't been to a trade show for a while, so thoroughly enjoyed it and even got to talk techy with some reps  :D

Whose leader? Why, was Rupert Murdoch there?

 :D
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

They weren't just reps, the one I was talking too was the former head designer of their spectrum analyser group.

Wait, what?! At EE trade shows and conferences you all staff the booths with technical people?

At software dev conferences / shows, it's almost always energetic blonde girls in tight-fitted clothing. "Booth babes" is the term, I think. Which is pretty annoying because when you're at a vendor's booth you really want technical information, not a hired model who doesn't know jack about the product or industry.

Yep, not uncommon at many stands at trade shows.
The Emona stand for example had a senior person from Rigol who was former R&D group. I found a bug in the new 1000Z scope and he called R&D on the spot to sort it out, and the new correct firmware was updated within 10 minutes.
At the Altium stand for example at many trade show we used to have the hardware group (including me) on hand to answer hardware questions, and the key software developers on hand to answer software questions.

Awesome. At the conferences and such that I've been to for the past 10 years or so, you only get that kind of preferential treatment if you know people on the inside, or if they want something from you and they were seeking you out.
