infrared proximity sensor as a touchless doorbell
(1/1)
jonovid:
some people are afraid of touching a doorbell! :scared:
so what if the doorbell touched its self for you! 8)
will it work?
range 10cm to 60cm
a doorbell able to detect the presence of nearby objects upto half a meter without any physical contact.
beaming flood of pulsed infrared light into the street 24/7
a week end DIY project
will there be infrared 38KHz interference? with neighbors televisions? :-//
as 38KHz infrared sensor designs, are a lot easy to make or use then ultrasonic sensor designs.
any touchless doorbell must run 24/7 without false alarms. from dogs or cats.
any thoughts are welcome
NiHaoMike:
Easiest solution is a cheap PIR module with the sensitivity turned way down.
amyk:
Pressure-sensitive doormat.
Benta:
Yeah, the obvious choice is a cheap PIR.
An alternative could be an IR proximity sensor:

Note the built-in ambient light sensor, which is almost always necessary.
SeanB:
Just buy a no touch switch, very common in access control as the way to exit the building without touching anything.
Should be pretty much available all over the place, and cheap as well, with a reasonably good look.

You just need a 12VDC supply for them, that is capable of providing 50mA of current. Must admit the US prices are pretty steep for them, the local price is under $15, for basically the same thing they charge $122 for in the USA. Must be made by the same Chinese OEM as well.
