Well my old  " Resistors color chart"   , that I usually have glued on my lab wall , died from age ..

If you have find one well designed , and like to share it ...

My chart lives in my head, and is not reliant on one solitary wall.

4 band resistors are always a challenge, but when in doubt, use a meter!

I use a small program as well, as I don't have wall space for a chart really. It's all shelves full of junk!

If you've never heard of it, give it a try. Very small, lots of neat features. I run it on my eleven year old laptop for bench reference. You do have to tinker with it a bit to see how things work, but it's fairly intuitive.

The color code part has a handy 'best fit' output for different E series, as well as covering just about everything else with a color code. You can left/right click on the colors to add/remove them from the resistor model to get a quick read on something, or type in a value to see it.

It's got about six billion other uses, but I just threw in these two screen caps to show the color codes bit.

Water level detector ... was the practical subject at my exams , so to graduate as electrician.

I had all the materials as  tank of 40L,  three floating sensors, and an secondary set of three sensors as backup .
I had to install all of them , and be operational, so the water pump next to me, to start and stop when needed.  

At the EEVblog , we should had our own  Resistor color chart , even with the face of Dave in it ..

One of these days im gonna print A2 page with all useful things and hang it on my wall ;]
For now "eTools" on android, its 2 way (from-to colors) resistor calc + some other calculations (atm LED resistor calc and capacitive/inductive reactance calc)

I am also among those who had to learn the colors at school (required in exams) when I studied as a service technician. I think I learnt them even before that school, as it is faster and thus more convenient. So I prefer the table inside my head. In fact if I look for particular resistance value I tend to think that as series of colors, instead of "decoding" each resistor.

I have since studied BSEE degree and moved to design side instead of trying to fix other people's stuff, but I still find useful knowing the colors. Although nowadays SMD 0603 resistors are the standard ones I use, and often have same information in plain text (albeit in very small font).

My old school Physics teacher was a dirty minded sod, he taught us this to remember the light colour spectrum Roll Over Your Great Big Innocent Virgin!

Tip ,  if you plan to print something like that, set the printer to high quality.
And the most important ... use as Gloss paper ..Photographic quality paper ..

I'm among those who have the codes in my head - I can't imagine having to whip out an iphone, chart, card, or go to a computer to decode a resistor.

Most people memorize a ten word phrase, but that is awkward - to get to grey, you have to think B___ B___ R____ O___ Y___ G____(No, not that one!)  B___V____G  Ah, that's it.  Grey is 8.

Back when I took Vocational electronics in High School, I learned a silly system that associated each color with a number.  After a while, I, just like a previous poster, just think "five" and "Green" at the same time.
