I don't get why he didn't just mount the knives to the base of the rocket and use them as fins.  It's not as if it would have made any difference where the knives were located. 

I guess launching it horizontally would still require either spin or gyro stabilization or a big trailing stick.

So all I need to do is to melt down some *ROCKET FUEL* and put some *ROCKET FUEL* into the rocket.
I hope buying 500lb of sugar / KNO3 won't trigger any alarms.
And now we can blame the russians for anything, it's too easy!
