Title: Interview Tips
Post by: eerocketman on August 04, 2017, 11:06:39 pm
Hey everyone, today I found out about the intern to full time employee transition process that takes place at the company I am currently interning at and it sounds really intimidating. I was wondering if some of the seasoned vets out there could give me some general hints and tips for interview in the electronic hardware design realm.

Thanks,

Ali

My first recommendation would be to talk to people at the company, such as the full time employee(s) you are working with.  They should at least be able to tell you more about the process.  Knowing what to expect will make you more comfortable, and being more comfortable will make you interview better.

Obviously you should be able to explain and defend your intern project, and also explain how your intern project fits into the larger project -- for instance how the constraints on the product affect your design.  That may or may not be part of the interview process: some companies may rely on the statements of your coworkers/hosts as to how you did the intern project and have a more general interview.  This is the sort of thing you might be able to find out ahead of time.

There will be limits to what your host is permitted or feels comfortable telling you about the process.  Don't be afraid to ask if you have questions about what to expect, but don't push it if they don't want to answer.

Did you have a formal interview for your internship?  If so, an employee interview will probably be similar.
