Invention of the day: Desktop save-as with jar instances

From desktop go to 'tray' -> 'jar' -> 'new', and Tadaaam!!! 



Former workbench setup is saved, new standing desk appears.

Both pics look the same. What are we missing here?

I was expecting to see a mechanical sweeper and a chute to herd the parts into a jar and screw the lid on.

Wanted the picture to be embedded between the text lines, but not in full size.

When I've put that white tray on top of the 4 jars (only 2 jars visible in the pic), the new working surface was too high to continue the work from a chair, so the new working surface became a standing desk. 

Works unexpectedly well, I can still access the underneath workbench if needed, and all the tools and instruments are still in the arm's reach.  Turned out to be a very nice way to fast-switch to another project.  Preserves the state of the former project, and without taking the time to clean up the workbench.

Ah, I see: when you say "new standing desk appears", you mean that a nice new clear work surface appears. Gotcha.

"Standing desks" good: I have a jeweler's workbench I salvaged from an antique store and restored. It was used by a watch repair person (the drawers were full of little bitty watch parts). It's higher than a normal table surface (38" above floor) so when you sit at it the work is closer to eye level; more comfortable since you aren't so hunched over. So it's kind of a sitting standing desk.

I can see some refinements to your setup. Maybe not the mechanical sweeper arm, but how about a chute for the contents of the tabletop so you could just sweep everything into one of your jars?

And for a higher-tech feature, you could station a digital camera up over the work surface so you could take a picture of your project parts before you sweep them away, then later recall that picture to see what and where everything was.

But nah, it's fine the way it is.

Passives and crap on the desk, I do basically just scoop them into a jar.

However, that jar (actually a small dish) is the FIRST place I look for components.  Often there is something in there that means I don't need to go and find a new component out of stock boxes.
