Is this a real Tesla coil
« on: October 29, 2023, 08:34:42 pm »
Hi guys, I want to buy this Tesla coil from china but I am wondering if it's output high voltage AC or just DC, It doesn't seems to have a big secondary coil and it outputs big arcs, I just want to make sure it's AC output not DC

Yes, that's the Aliexpress/Banggood magic. You can find tesla coils with bluetooth and rechargeable 6LR61 9V batteries with 20Ah.
The Alibaba group is called Alibaba for a reason. ;D

Works surprisingly well given its small size.
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.

With the phone at just a few cm that seems to communicate. Let's try a few m.

It's a fun project otherwise but I fail to really see the point of driving it with audio, could be anything else, as the audible output of this is pretty horrific.

You can fix that with some vacuum tubes and gold plated audiophile capacitors I'm sure.

I think that would be some flavor of "solid state Tesla coil", as opposed to the more traditional spark gap type.

yeah, I got one of them using beans i had on my PCBway account.
It's a solid state coil and drives the primary coil direct.

Works pretty well for its size.

Bluetooth audio connection and a siggen app on your phone is pretty cool, and you can get to a higher frequency doing that than you can with just the freq knob on the front.
The tip of the breakout point starts to glow red hot at higher frequencies.  Though i'm not sure if that's a good thing, might be overdriving it.

Don't expect to get good tesla coil music out of it,  it's really only of use with a sig gen app. Maybe wave files generated from midi would work.
But any generic audio like youtube vidoes sounds terrible

If you want i can test the BT range.
