My mother house (flat) is from '91. It has a smaller box, with 1 "differential" (ground fault interruptor) and 5 power control units (bipolar all of them). Before "intelligent" meters there was also a ICPM (power switch, sealed by company to check maximum instant consuption). But everything inside house, pr9tected in a non-metal box....
Also fuses and meters (originally analogic ones), always outside home. In this case in a special room in ground level of the building. This is useful for companies, they can cut electric flow if you don't pay.... (all these rooms have a master key that all electric companies have).
