Is YouTube changing???
« on: December 25, 2020, 12:32:50 pm »
Is it just me, or is virtually every YouTube video NOW plagued with at LEAST 4 times as many Ads, that seem
to be automatically edited in, beyond what the 'poster' may have wanted affiliated with their post???  :P
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!

Yes. Youtube is becoming much worse by leaps and bounds. It's no longer just from the point of view of the content creators, but also from the point of view of the consumer.

I use youtube-dl, the only "ads" I see are the ones the creator embedded.

If they want more ad views, perhaps we could just start a few videos playing on some old smartphones and leave them running all day. (Would that make them enough revenue to be worth the electricity use?)

I stump up the $2.99 per month - problem solved. Changes the whole YT experience.

They recently introduced a new, annoying [edit: more annoying] kind of ads, which the content creator - if s/he so chooses - has to actively opt-out of. Many probably didn't bother.

I only see adds on my Android phone, the Windows OS with Ad Blocker on my laptop gets rid of the interruptions.

More than 10 years ago I realized they use to put ads on Youtube and several Websites, but I thought they stop doing that.  :-//

I have YouTube Premium sub, so no ads anywhere. And I support creators that I watch.

The creators will get more if you give to them using Bitcoin, Patreon, Subscribestar, etc. and then use an adblocker to remove the ads.

I use youtube-dl [...]

Does that literally download the video to your PC, so you can view it from there?  Does it support the high res videos?

Youtube is becoming TV2.
It's been downhill ever since "broadcast yourself" disappeared from the logo.

Yes, and it defaults to downloading the highest resolution available.

Yes to all. It can also transcode, get only video, subtitles, etc.
Another nice tool is streamlink.

Youtube is unusable without an ad blocker.  I use ublock and always forget there even is ads until I decide to try using it on my phone.

Hi there.  Yes, after reading your reply, and quite a few others about 'uBlock' etc, I suddenly realized!!!
I've recently changed/experimenting with a new browser, and forgot that I always had the 'uBlock' Add-in active, when
previously using Firefox. I've now added it to my new browser, and all is fine again!!  I thought that things like those Ad
blockers only blocked the other modules of Ads from web-pages... I didn't know it would stop the 'mid-video' Ads??   :P ;D

We all like the thought of Dave making money from his Youtube posts, but I was blown away by this following guy!!
(I am NOT affiliated with this guy, just amazed).  He goes under the name of 'MrBeast', which is certainly a misnomer!
as he is very kind & helpful, and gives away most of his money, to help the general public. His only stipulation is to
NOT ask him for money, as it would snowball out of control.. (duh..). After research, I found out he makes up to
1.6 Million Dollars a month! from his advertising procurement!! Below is just one of his many Videos where he finds
people in various shops, to grab everything they can within a time period, and it's theirs. Often, the shops/items are
too big for a trolley, so they just have to TOUCH the items while running around!

He seems to be a legit sort of guy...  :-+

uBlock is great. Too bad, some websites lock their content, if they see an adblock.
We need an Adblock blocker blocker.
And something for TV Youtube would be nice. Other than a PiHole.

A lot of the time, a "F5 and ESC" breaks the adblock breaker if timed right. Then there are ad "hiders" like AdNauseam.

That's too much trouble for me, especially since adblocker doesn't work on Android YT app. I like convenience Premium gives me, including downloading videos without any third party tools.

I don't use youtube enough to warrant a subscription.  I use it even less now that it is so full of ads.

The same here, no ads with Firefox and Adblock Plus.

But I try to avoid youtube because of their terrible censorship.

and YT shouldn't get anything for providing massive amounts of storage and bandwidth?
