Except the original speedometer in a DeLorean doesn't even go to 88 MPH...
The DeLorean from 1982 achieved 125 Mph (200 Km/h).
But the law at this time permitted only speedometers with Vmax 85 Mph. Doh!
(Hmm... Ferrari speedos were restricted, too? How about Viper, Corvette and so on?)
I've never seen a car with a speedo that only went to 85 mph---And I've seen a hell of a lot of speedometers!
From memory, even my old Morris Minor went to 90.
My 1964 EH Holden speedo went to 120mph,although the EH topped out at about 85!
OK,I Googled,& it was another bit of US tomfoolery!
We didn't see that many '80s US cars in Oz.
Of course,to sell here they would have had to have km/h speedometers, anyway.
