It's Impossible to create a Baidu account ?
« on: November 25, 2019, 03:03:42 am »
I lost my day trying to sign in on Baidu, and nothing works, Does anybody know a way to register on Baidu,  With an international phone that works ( nothing googled works).

I guess they changed something and is no more possible to download files from pan.baidu without a login, I often buy dev boards from china, and de manual / driver / schematics is always on pan.baidu,

Any tip?

Good luck with that. The government, in typical paranoid fashion, has ordered that all accounts must be linked to the user's physical identity. And of course, there's no provision for that if you don't have at least a Chinese phone number.

You may find it easier to request copies of the files from people who already have access, on a case-by-case basis.

Yes, the easy way to register easily on Baidu is by being an holder of a chinese phone number, then you can provide said phone number and receive the message with the counter code. To have said phone number, you have to go to the service provider and provide a copy of your ID or passport, that will be linked to your account, so no going to a store and get a SIM card easily. Everything is tied to your own persona.

Some corporations with an ambition to become the paranoid government in absence of a paranoid government are no better ;)

The average EEVblog user is far too wise (or jaded) to fall for whataboutism.

To have said phone number, you have to go to the service provider and provide a copy of your ID or passport

Not just that. Starting this week, you will also need to submit to facial recognition. Big Brother really is watching you.

1984 George wells in action,  I hope this does not spread worldwide, Starts with a totalitarian country,  And is possible that others exchange privacy for security Like we do on every flight taking our shoes out.

But China is China, If you have a rule, have a way to break it, It's only a question of time to find that way.

PS ( 15 min later )

By the way, I already found a way, and make my account  with the help of a Chinese friend

Another fine example of how Chinese politics gets in the way of business/trade.
Not everyone has a friend in China to fix all this stuff when it happens.

Are there not any Chinese VOIP numbers? I have a UK phone number on the old phone downstairs just for fun, there was a VOIP service that would give a free number if you put a small amount of money in your account.

Not just that. Starting this week, you will also need to submit to facial recognition. Big Brother really is watching you.

When I got to get the SIM Card contract in the beginning of the year It was needed only the passport. Now is this more. Doesn't surprise me, to go to the vegetable shop close were I live I pass through 4 cameras assembled on a pole outside, all HIK Vision and all working. Plus the Police box, where normally there is the police man sleeping inside after lunch...

And I really don't care, London, UK is the same and no one says anything.

New York is the same too.

Probably other parts of the world are too.

Plus the system already have my Phone Number, plus fingerprints and scan of my face (needed if I wanted when I go to Hong Kong to use the automated customs lane instead of the normal one with the guy who stamps the Passport. Even when not using the automated customs lane you need to provide index, middle and ring fingers fingerprints). For everyone who is not in the system you have to register your fingerprints at custom border. If you don't register you can not enter, even having the visa approved.

Same in Portugal, in the Airport, fingerprint and face image is needed for the automated customs lane. I thing that is everywhere currently in the world that uses that. I see this as an no issue. We also don't know what other governments do with the things they get on camera, and fingerprints and image recognition. There are other issues in China and around the world that need more attention than this.

Reminds me of a recent movie I watched called "Anon" on Netflix. In that world, everyone has a camera recording hookup to their eye, and augmented reality overlaying everything. Police and detectives use this to solve crimes which are almost never a problem since everything is recorded and uploaded to "the cloud". Except that in this movie there are a bunch of people that are "UNKNOWN" by the system... OFF GRID, some of which are hackers who can alter the cloud database, edit recordings, change events, names, copy and paste it into someone else's history, etc.

Pretty freaky movie but with all ubiquity of AI and cameras today, I see some people wanting to  go "OFF GRID" in a way too... and confusing facial recognition algorithms, fingerprint sensors, etc. just to be Anarchists. Here's one of the trailers:

I likewise have accounts with an Australian number on Chinese sites, but it's possible that our old accounts have been grandfathered in. The restrictions have been made more onerous over time. Can't create accounts on various forums (account creation fails in miscellaneous ways), can't log in to Taobao with my Alibaba account (activation email never arrives), etc. These failures are never explained. 🙉🙈🙊

blueskull show step by step how you did that magic, Maybe you did 6 months or more ago, things changed now isn't easy, will be very helpful to a lot of people if they can't log in with international Mobil phones.

I already did in the past, but I changed my number, and do not find a way to do that, the unique way that worked for me is buying a Chinese sim card by a friend, and register with china info, the famous &overseas=1 simple isn't accepted now.

It is indeed an old account back from 2012.

That is also because of the same country's rules.  ;)
