« on: December 26, 2022, 09:19:08 pm »
I keep getting error 404 on JLCPCB when searching for parts today. Am I the only one?

is it my fault?  :-//

Did you mean LCSC? Tried a few times, everything seems to work fine here.

Your fault? :-DD

No it was JLCPCB. LCSC was fine. The problems lasted a couple hours. Guess they were maintaining their databases or something, and nobody works the day after christmas,  right? :)

For those wondering why one would look for parts on JLCPCB, they probably haven't used JLCPCB's assembly service yet.
While their main distributor is LCSC, they do *not* use the same LCSC channel (and thus, stock) than the LCSC distribution channels accessible to everyone else. JLCPCB's stock is completely different. You'll find out the hard way if you have to deal with JLCPCB.

Now they can use "global" sourcing otherwise, but it takes 10 more days on average and is significantly more expensive.

So, just for those who wouldn't know yet. It's cheap but you get what you pay for.

JLCPCB was working for me today, although it looks like China celebrates both our new year and their new year, because where "file review" usually takes half an hour it has been waiting a day today.

That is not quite correct, by the way. JLCPCB offers a subset of LCSC's stock for use in their assembly service. It seems to me that LCSC has multiple warehouses, and one (or some) of them is co-located with the JLCPCB facility and houses the parts which JLCPCB can use as "extended parts".

Since JLCPCB's parts search totally sucks, I prefer the search on LCSC to select any parts beyond standard Rs and Cs. If you pick parts there which are in stock, and which are also available to "ship immediately", chances are that JLCPCB can use them too. I then take the Cxxxxx number from the LCSC catalog and enter that into the JLCPCB parts search to verify. That's about the only thing the JLCPCB search is good for...

A long long time ago, in a distant land, they offered combined shipping with LCSC, if you do the right procedure. So you can grab PCB, connectors, and say some screws and other mechanics.
But why improve, when you can screw it up like with the 3rd party parametric catalog search.

This is from their own support. And whatever the minute details of how they handle their LCSC stocks, point is it is NOT the same as the stock you can see on LCSC web site. Period. The only way of knowing is to search on JLCPCB search engine. Or just order and they'll give you the list of what is not in their stock. I had prepared my BOM purely on LCSC web site and a good half of it ended up "rejected" by JLCPCB as not in their own stock. Then if you still want them, you need the "global sourcing" option. Point is, the stock they have access to is NOT the stock you'll see on LCSC.

And it is both for their basic parts and extended parts.

Basic parts are just a subset of parts in this stock that they use most frequently on their assembly lines, so this is kind of a pooling assembly which explains the low cost. Their P&P machines are gigantic and equipped with basic parts. Extended parts require manual preparation of P&P which is why they charge extra. ($3/part at this point or something like this.) Both basic parts and extended parts are LCSC parts from their own stock - which is indeed a separate warehouse.

I had some issues with their web site about a year ago. After contacting the support, it looks like they were doing some data merge/transfer. As, most of the parts were out of stock in that moment. They fixed it quite quickly.

[...] point is [...] Period. [...] Point is [...]

If you say so. Feel free to keep struggling with the JLCPCB parts search; I will keep doing what I described: Start at LCSC, look for "ships immediately" parts, check whether these are available at JLCPCB.

And I do know the difference between JLCPCB's "basic" vs. "extended" parts, thank you.
