Title: Juno "reverse microwave" chiller!
Post by: paulca on January 13, 2020, 10:41:24 am
Seen this spammed all over the place from CES2020.

Turns out of course it's a rubbish, re-hack of an old, bad, idea.

It's a peltier cooler with a heatpipe heatsink/fans and water heat transfer medium.  They claim it can cool your bottle of wine in minutes!  Why would you waste energy storing your wine in the fridge?

It's only when you dig a little deeper you find this uses between 100W and 200W and needs to be left on 24/7 so it's ready to cool.

So, it's an incredibly inefficient thermo-electric ice bucket.

It does, again, highlight just have absolutely rubbish tech reporters are these days.

ThunderF00ts been on it.

Because the fridge is on regardless and full of other foods which require chilling. Nevermind that a fridge that's full is more efficient than an empty one. :-)
