Just what every Prius needs
« on: November 15, 2016, 02:23:23 pm »
And I was going to design this!  Searching a seller for something else to add to an order I found this.  Never ceases to amaze me what you can find on ebay.

I'm not entirely sure what it is. Is it a speaker you put in your car instead of a turbo charger?

Yeah. Your car won't actually have a turbo charger, but will sound like it does.

No need for that. All you need is a subwoofer in the boot and a CD with the turbo noise in the stereo. I knew someone at college who used to do that for a laugh.

Mighty Car Mods have covered this one:

Another interesting video is their one on 'electric turbo chargers'

Also, a subwoofer isn't exactly the best speaker to be using for a noise that has very little bass!

That's what I was thinking.

Also, I shake my head every time I hear one of these 'sound effect' setups.  It's just a wank (unless it's a stir).

Fake turbo horns are quite common in Brazil.

It can be worse. Some cars have a so called factory installed 'sound symposer' which puts more engine sound into the cabine  :wtf: ^  :wtf: That is the very last thing I want!
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Reminds me of an episode of top gear, They were reviewing some electric car that actually had an option on the stereo to play some sort of noise so you wouldn't fall asleep at the wheel.

Maybe young boys want their cars to sound more powerful inside to impress girls?

Two thoughts:
- only other boys (not real men!) would be impressed by that.

- isn't Formula One doing exactly that since they changed to V6 engines? A few weeks after the V6 debut, they made something to the cars to artificially make the V6 sound more "racey", more aggressive.

If you want a car to sound racey, just put a conservative in it with a megaphone.

31.5 hp  - reminds me of a car I once had that came in at 16 hp

Trivia question -  I worked on the car a lot.  Once I took off the carb and for some reason I cranked the engine.  The engine started (w/o a carb), I immediately knew this was wrong and turned it off.  I looked at the engine and saw that something was missing.  Can anyone guess why it started without a carb and what was missing?

I have an electric car and I like the fact that it's very quiet. Noisy cars are for those dickheads with small dicks that feel the need to compensate.

My car has a shift lever like an IC car, but it doesn't actually control a transmission. Put the car in Neutral and floor the accelerator and the car does nothing--there's no sound at all.

I shake my head at some cars which have genuine blow-off valves in a poor attempt to make them appear "racey" or somewhat powerful. I'm thinking along the lines of the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla etc... It's usually paired with a ridiculously low ride height and suspension that'll rattle your teeth out.

I do enjoy it though when my Volvo beats them from a standing start, unfortunately I can't see their facial expression since they are too far behind me. ;-)

100% agree. But not just cars, motorcycles as well.

I would have guessed that the car was running off of its own oil supply, but that is only for diesels.
possible fuel leak, dumping gas into the intake manifold.

A cap over the fuel line that went previously to the missing carb and which was now spewing raw fuel into the open intake?

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...

1. It is a fuel injection car >:D.
2. Burnt fuel is missing >:D.

1.  It was not fuel injected, it had a carb.  I was working on it and took off the carb and gas spilled when I unscrewed the fuel lines (hint).  The carb was sitting on the ground.  I plugged the fuel lines (no fuel leaks through the lines) and the engine still started.

2. No

Something I've observed myself - and I have never had a 'performance' car.

What I find stupid and more than a little worrying is that many times these 'hot shots', who don't have the skills for a brisk take-off (something which you can clearly prepare for) will fly past me a bit further down the road - obviously trying to rescue some 'image'.  Stupid - because by that time, I had been travelling at the posted speed limit for some time.
