Kester 951 with rosin?
« on: February 12, 2014, 09:15:07 pm »
Was browsing ebay for a flux pen and found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kester-951-Rework-Flux-Pen-Low-Solid-No-Clean-10ml-Xbox-360-PS3-Reflow-RROD-YLOD-/161077191923?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2580f2e4f3

If you look at the  photo, the label on the pen says "ROSIN FLUX RMA". From what I gather from the text and Kesters datasheet, 951 is supposed to be a non-rosin flux?

Should I go to bed or is there something fishy going on?  :)

I'd think fishy, based on the label.

FWIW, Kester's own documentation (MSDS), the formula is as follows:

N-Butyl Acetate              5 - 10% by weight
Proprietary Ingredients   1 - 5% by weight
Non Hazardous              1 - 5% by weight
Ethanol                 30 – 60% by weight
Isopropyl Alcohol      10 - 30% by weight
Methanol                  5 - 10% by weight

Granted, there may actually be some rosin in it, falling in the "Proprietary Ingredients" section, but 951 is stated as No-Clean, not rosin/RMA.

Hope this helps. :)

Have always been a sceptic to generic bottles with generic labels. Thought it could be legit since it was located in the US. Until watching that photo up close that is :)

Have had fake Gillette blades sent from the UK so shouldn't be surprised
