Wow,

So, this is the LAD, ie. Light Absorbing Diode!

Pretty cool, but may not have practical applications, due to the nanometer spacing and such.

We are years from its use but perhaps Intel could use some well placed LED diodes inside processors as a proof of concept ?  :)
