Are you sure it's a 555 and not something like a PIC12Fyxxx? If in doubt, check pins 1&8, PIC's are reversed from 555's. |

I thought about that. But It's being used to drive a piezo atomiser in a model steam ship a friend is building. One of these magazine things, I think a PIC would be overkill for funnel effect. Here's a better pic, it's single sided. |

Or it’s a custom IC made for that purpose. Anyhow, a 555 timer isn’t cheaper than a very cheap MCU. It’d be more surprising if it were a 555 timer, given that it also needs more support components than an MCU. |
