Laser Etched 555 timer.?

Well this is nuts. I have no idea why you would do this. I know wiping all traces of certain ICs is common place, but a 555.?

Are you sure it's a 555 and not something like a PIC12Fyxxx?  If in doubt, check pins 1&8,  PIC's are reversed from 555's.

I thought about that. But It's being used to drive a piezo atomiser in a model steam ship a friend is building. One of these magazine things, I think a PIC would be overkill for funnel effect.

Here's a better pic, it's single sided.

Or it’s a custom IC made for that purpose.

Anyhow, a 555 timer isn’t cheaper than a very cheap MCU. It’d be more surprising if it were a 555 timer, given that it also needs more support components than an MCU.

It has to be more along the lines of this.

Unfortunately I don't have it to test right now.

Whilst it will work with a 555, it clearly is not a 555 timer. Pin 5 is connected to the gate of the driver transistor. If it were a 555, it would be pin 3.

It might be obvious to you, but I'm a noob. But thank you for pointing me in the correct direction.
