Laser Etched 555 timer.?

Well this is nuts. I have no idea why you would do this. I know wiping all traces of certain ICs is common place, but a 555.?

Are you sure it's a 555 and not something like a PIC12Fyxxx?  If in doubt, check pins 1&8,  PIC's are reversed from 555's.

I thought about that. But It's being used to drive a piezo atomiser in a model steam ship a friend is building. One of these magazine things, I think a PIC would be overkill for funnel effect.

Anyhow, a 555 timer isn’t cheaper than a very cheap MCU. It’d be more surprising if it were a 555 timer, given that it also needs more support components than an MCU.
