I have just spent 3 hours in Word 2007 doing plots and diagrams in the drawing canvas. I save it, open it, and guess what....it's gone! I can only see the drawing canvas but it is empty.
It seems this is a well known problem. I was just wondering if there is any solution that works (done the common things suggested online), or should I burst into tears for 3 tedious hours I will have to repeat?

Is it a well known problem? It has happened to me before in Word 2010, losing hours of work also, but I could turn up no reports of similar events in spite of much searching. Do you have any links? I would like to send a bomb in Microsoft's direction over this one. If it was a bug in Word 2007, why didn't they fix it in Word 2010? >:(

I hope you manage to recover your work, it sucks to have to re-do everything from scratch, and it's hard to be as motivated as the first time.
No experience with this particular issue, but I would never trust such a complicated job to Word. I would produce the graphics in a real graphics/graphing package and import the image in Word. If Word screws up, I can just re-import the image. I only trust Word with simple stuff like letters. I may grudgingly accept using Word for a report if mandated by somebody like my boss, but I would make sure I could rebuild the document from text and external graphics within a reasonable time span.
