Interesting. The charge from the AA cells should be enough for one attempt providing your engine is in good condition. The accumulator on our car is only a year old so I can't verify this unless I park all night with the lights on. Would anybody care to try this?

I've started a large six-cylinder petrol engine with a 12V 7Ah SLA.  You get only one go before the little alligator clip leads melt.
