Title: LCSC priceing
Post by: strawberry on August 17, 2023, 06:36:53 am
what odds would be getting under-performing components for half the price?

Half price of Mouser is not surprising for genuine parts. I'm sure they will be fine.

If you really want cheap and risky then get used ones from aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/2255800134529480.html (https://www.aliexpress.com/i/2255800134529480.html)

LCSC is a serious asian distributor. You can't compare it with random sellers on Aliexpress.

I have had zero issues with LCSC quality, they are just mass volume seller. I have made mistakes ordering parts that had confusing descriptions/like model numbers. Their handling time can be hit or miss 1-2 days is more like 2-4 and 3-4 can be 6-8 some times.

I typically order once a month for non rush work. After a while you will have so many reels of parts you will not know what to do with them all.

Here is a LCSC order i Unboxed.

I'd say approximately the same as getting defective/fake parts for the full price on Digikey or Mouser.

The only issue I've ever had is 75HC595's that had reduced functionality - this was stated in the datasheet, just annoying that they used the same part number.

Time-wise I find that higher value orders (>GBP500) tend to sit around for a few days before being dipatched.

Starting Jan 2023, we have started to specify alternative part numbers from
LCSC, when we manufacture (e.g. assemble) PCB in China.  Primary part
numbers are always Digikey or Mouser, secondary we now use LCSC, and
<I can't remember the name right now, will edit later>. [Finally remembered: octoparts]

So far, we have not seen any issues. We usually do not allow the PCB
assembly house to substitute components. We always ask them to check
with us first.

Cheers,

Thats what I said, LCSC will be fine, ali is a risk.

Yeah another user got burned by "1N4148-XYZ" that weren't close to equivalent in spec. Also stated in the datasheet.
Its kind of good and bad, good that you don't have to search through 100 different random parts to find something similar in function to a 595. But bad if you bought it thinking its the same part. If their search were better it would help.

Even on Digikey, you're going to see 1N4148's from different manufacturers with different specs:

100 V 200mA    onsemi
75V 300mA       SMC
75V 150mA       Good-Ark Semiconductor
100V, 150mA    Taiwan Semiconductor Corporation

True, which is where Digikey search and filtering helps. In the case of LCSC they were missing the capacitance rating.
LCSC do have voltage, current, power, and leakage. But many times they are not yet entered into the website, so are just blank.

I've got into a habit of always double-checking parameters of the part I'm ordering against the manufactorer's datasheet as I've seen them wrong or absent in distributors I've used (DK, Mouser, LCSC).
