learning by your mistakes is really the best way
« on: July 05, 2012, 12:59:50 pm »
I was using my soldering iron today, and I noticed that the nut to keep the tip tight was getting loose, so i grabbed my pliers to tighten it. Not thinking I touched the metal part if the pliers so i could get a better grip. It hurt. I no know not to so that again

I've also dropped the metal cover part on my lap.

I hate it when you burn the tips of fingers, it makes it so hard to pick things up some times

Hi!

And screws for fastening tips are bad also. While iron and tip expand outwards with the heat, a screw will expand both ways and put more stress to iron and tip. That also causes less contact area between iron and tip. Tips with clamps are much better, IMHO.

Cheers

Remember though some mistakes you only make once other mistakes you never get a chance to make again. My grandfather who was Greek had a saying, " there is no such thing as an accident only such thing as a fool".

Ouch, hope you learnt too. You can't leave a five year old near a soldering iron unattended  ;)
