Title: Look what I found in the skip at work
Post by: johnh on September 08, 2018, 07:47:43 am
Found this Agilent 34980A in the skip at work.  Has six 34942A 75 \$\Omega\$ cards.
Fortunately the skip was nearly full, otherwise it probably would be more damaged than it is

Power up okay.  VFD is faint but still readable.

4 of the cards have damaged connectors.

Don't know what I going to do with it.

Hi!

Well, I see lots of damaged connectors, which is a shame, but I think that those can be replaced. The trouble will be finding equivalent connectors. Probably you'll have to sacrifice one of the cards for parts, but then you could restore it later.

Kind regards, Samuel Lourenço

Aren't those standard 75 Ohm SMB connectors?

From the manual 34980-9004
The 34942A — the 75- \$\Omega\$ variation — uses Mini SMB connectors

I might send one the cards to Dave for a tear down.

Kind of a waste, but if you send one of the cards for a tear down, I suggest that you take all the good connectors first. Also, make sure that it is a defective one. Just because it will probably end up in the bin, anyway.

Anyway, you own the equipment, and it is not my business what you do with it. It is just a suggestion.
